I called and made a reservation a week in advance and was told to call in the morning for payment. I called this morning and was told she was too busy and to call later. An hour ago I called back and was told the the room I reserved was given away. When I asked for a manager I was... More

The room got dark when the lights were turned off, that is the best thing about my room. The sheets were clean, the towels were washed (but were stained with oil one day). We stayed in the "park in front" section of the hotel,

Stopped here for lunch because nothing else available for many miles. It's an historic old place that you can poke around in at your leisure. That is the only saving grace about the place. We had ham sandwiches that you could slap together at home for about 35 cents. They weren't bad but they were grossly over priced. The cafe... More

The Virginian Hotel is where the book "The Virginian" byOwen Wister was written. The hotel contains a small "cowboy bar" which is interesting but the jewel is the dinning room--place set as it was back in the later 1800's to early 1900's with original place settings and is just fantastic. Suggest you ask to visit the rooms upstairs as they... More

We were skeptical about stopping at the only restaurant around for miles and miles, but pleasantly surprised to find that the food was delicious, the prices and service were good, and the portions were generous. Also, it was an interesting historical spot with much character.

I got a room and my review will not be goo, so I am doing a separate one on the restaurant/bar. A couple had sandwiches when I can in so I wanted to try one after getting a room. Everyone was friendly and some were employees now working that day.. I ordered a Club sandwich and a drink, the lady... More

We stopped in here for a meal and found the fare was not fancy but was good. The bar and restaurant are little museums in themselves, with a dining room and parlor that look like they have not changed a bit since 1895. No comment on the hotel accommodations as we didn't spend the night.

I love funky old hotels listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are my sine qua non and the Virginian certainly fits the bill, it's name taken from Owen Wister's novel. More to the point, its the only game in Medicine Bow, which perhaps explains certain things about the place. First, it's directly across the road from a... More

There is a reason TripAdvisor reviews are so varied – with “Poor” or “Terrible” for some folks while “Very Good” or “Excellent” for others. It all depends on YOU. Are you adventuresome? Interested in western history? Did you love the TV program or the book “The Virginian”? Willing to try some place different? Or, do you look for a certain... More

We have just spent a night at The Virginian and wished we could of stayed another night. The hotel is like a museum, the rooms are like they were in the 1800's. The food was good, especially the breakfast omelette, the staff are amazing, so much fun and will tell you all about the hotel. The train goes by and... More
