I have been coming here for 10 years and unfortunately it has been getting worse. The food is ok. But stick to sashimi and sushi. The cooked dishes are more oily and leaning towards Chinese cooking. I had he bento box with sashimi, chicken Katsu and sautéed vegetables. This comes with salad rice and miso soup. The salad was very... More

Maru is a small restaurant in the neighborhood of Union Square on Powell and Sutter. You have to climb a little to get there. They have an extensive menu of sushi, both the traditional and some new combinations. Service is prompt and corteous. Did not asked for dessert.

I came in starved and alone. Opened with agadashi tofu that was not good too big pieces not crunchy on the outside and a sauce that was a bit anemic The albacore was decent and so were the rainbow roll. No more. Unagi was good.

We looked this place up online and it had great reviews. The place is humble but very dynamic and the food is very nice. There were many Japanese dining there so that also gave us a good feeling. It won't disappoint

I stopped in for take away and my meal did not disappoint. The service was fast and friendly. The rolls were super tasty as were the gyoza and everything was packaged nicely for my walk back to the hotel.

Not the nicest place inside but really good food, and we are very fussy eaters! We ordered the fried chicken, gyoza, spicy tuna sushi and salmon sashimi and everything was perfect. Freshest sashimi we have ever had, and loved the gyozas and fried chicken so much we ordered another serving of each!

First time dining here; came with a friend of mine who recommended it as more for locals than tourists (I'm the latter). Overall, it was a decent meal for an okay price: two bento dinners, one nato maki and two cokes = $52 before tip. The food was fairly tasty and I had enough to eat without being stuffed. No... More

If you are in Union Square or on Nob Hill, worth eating here. Very nice staff, delicious sushi and udon bowls. Yummy Lava cake. Good for families, alone or a group. Only cons- no kid chopsticks, and the tea is just a tea bag in a cup.
