Spikes is a bit of a legend around The Castro. Serves up great coffees, teas and hot chocolate. Also fantastic toasted sandwiches and toast. Very small but service is really good. A must try. Pet friendly.

The coffee was good and the service very friendly, but the atmosphere is very sad and doesn't invite to sit there.

Nice stop for a coffee. Moreover, you can bring to your home a funny mug with Spike's picture, the mascot dog of this cosy place

I really love the comfy homey feel of Spike's - it's a neighborhood gem filled with locals, families, and really great people (and their pets :). The service is friendly and fast, and everything from the drip coffee to the pastries is consistently fresh. I come here to buy my beans as they have a solid selection of roasts (including... More

Spike's was the neighborhood coffee shop on my stay, about a block away from my apartment rental. Pretty simple inside, with a wide selection of pre-prepared pastries, everything from bagels with your choice of stuff on them to ham and cheese croissants, muffins, etc. They rotated their coffee bean choices, always having 3-4 different choices, all of which were very... Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
