What can I say? The tacos are delicious and reasonably authentic (San Francisco Mexicans eat here). Ok, it's not El Farolito but they have elevated the taco to new heights and the result is so very yummy. I highly recommend that you not eat a big breakfast and make your way to this overlooked neighbourhood - you'll be happy that... More

The food is fresh tasting and served quickly in fact there were chips on our table with lovely salsa before we had our coats off. The tacos were stuffed full of filling and really good. 4 between 2 with some beans and we were stuffed for the day. It might get sniffed at as fast food but it's well worth... More

Yummy tacos - lots of beautiful choices of filling, from the traditional carnitas to fabulous, chicken en mole and succulent braised beef. All washed down with a cold beer. Perfect.

We stopped here for lunch on our way walking to the pier. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine and some yummy food. We ordered a selection of tacos and some appetizers. Also some local beer. Everything was presented nicely and the taste was good. It was a bit tricky eating on the slant as its on a hill but... More

Very yummy mexican treats with huge portions. Great chips, salsa and guac and good salads, tacos, etc. Nice outdoor seating and plenty of room inside if you were to come with a big group, etc. Lots of fresh ingredients at fair prices.

Walked into this place just as a quick stop to grab a bite to eat as we walked around. We had the chips and salsa, the queso dip, 6 different tacos and some drinks. Overall the portions were super small. The meat in the tacos were a bit dry and if it wasn't for the little salsa try they provided... More

This is a good place, with an interesting layout, and food that I would certainly order again. Had the three chorizo taco option with black beans and was well-rewarded. Fresh ingredients and great taste, plus flavorful sauces to play with as needed. My only gripe would be the overly loud music and somewhat odd, dark lighting (which dimmed even further... More

Our party of 6 tried every single taco available, fish, brisket, carnitas, chicken...all very average. The squid on the other hand was UNBELIEVABLE. It was cooked to perfection, i.e., not over or under and was served on top of a potato chip with a nice spicy sauce. Next time, I'd only get squid. We were there on a Saturday for... More

Tacolicious is by no means a traditional taqueria-you won't find burritos here. What started out in the summer of 2009 as a little taco stand at the Thursday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market with a fittingly frivolous name, has become a sit-down, cocktail-driven restaurant, 120 tequilas strong. Tacos anchor a menu that extends to dishes such as beet salad with grapefruit and pumpkin seeds, tuna tostadas, grilled squid served Veracruz-style, albondigas, shrimp a la diabla, and toasted coconut flan.

Like many native Californians, Mexican food is in us. Though we grew up traveling to Mexico regularly (and still do), it took a trip to Mexico City-where the food is served in settings as sophisticated and urban as you'll find anywhere in the world-for us to realize that tacos don't have to be relegated to street food or a corner mom-'n'-pop.

We're proud to be based in San Francisco, a town where the words local, sustainable and organic have become so redundant that they make you want to yawn. But just in case you were wondering about our menu: The answer is almost always, "Yes, yes and yes."

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
