When I was growing up my Dad used to take us here. I don't remember much - just the hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant, and men in white coats offering fancy service in a downtown location. So I returned here recently, to bring back old memories, and I realize now why my father, and his father before him,... More

This bar and restaurant is a throwback to the 50s and 60s. Great service and food, fun atmosphere, and order a SideCar - that is their specialty.

This venerable old grill has been operating continuously for 168 years and still produces some of the best grilled fish on the planet. I have been coming here since the 1970s and the quality doesn't vary. However I recommend you stick to the local fish, rex sole, sand dabs or petrale, when you order from the grill menu. I had... Was in San Francisco last week and had my choice of any eating establishment. Based on an experience I had two years ago I chose to return here for the Australian Lobster Tail. Along with the oysters Rockefeller, it was outstanding. Pricey for sure but all the style and taste of those long time established eating establishments.

My wife and I had no real plans for Valentines day. We went out as sort of a last minute rush out the door kinda thing. Knowing it was Valentines day we wanted to avoid the crowds. We decided on fish for an early dinner. We found ourselves on California street near Tadich Grill so we tried it.

Best to go for the simple preparations for the very fresh fish. I've been coming here since a child. This is an institution. Best restaurant sour dough bread and butter with petralle sole, rex sole, sand dabs - sauteed. Oystets!! Good wine list x better dry gin martinis. Waiters and bar tenders haven't changed in 50 years (and I suspect... More

Fresh, fresh, fresh seafood at this famous old (Gold Rush-era) institution! Lots of dark wood, brass, black and white tile floors. Bustling at lunch time. The waitstaff is professional and completely nice; we did not experience any of the brusqueness referenced in some other reviews. When I couldn't decide between the Petrale sole and crab cakes, our waiter suggested we share... More

Be sure to skip the Tadich Grill. We experienced the worst service of my four years living in San Francisco. We sat at the bar and the barman nearby squirted Grenadine at us and refused to apologize. He could not have cared less. I have left pictures below of the stains on my husband's shirt and the inside of my... More

Iconic restaurant in SF, don't miss it! Food service is available at bar if tables are full. The menu is extensive, meals on the pricey side but well worth it, service excellent!

I swear I come here every time I'm in town! Predictably fabulous always. It's not inexpensive however it's a great value... I had already eaten about 4 crab legs before I took this photo, I couldn't even finish them all! My friend had the crab cakes, he couldn't finish them either. Loaded w/crab - SOO delish! We shared a chowder... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
