Great drinks, friendly staff, fantastic, if not self-aware, atmosphere. If you are looking for some fun time at a bar in SF, then you should give Butter a shot. I had such a great time in this joint. One of my favorite bars in SF.

Butter is a great bar. Yes, 'white trash' drinks are over $10 each, yes it's in a sketch part of town (broken windows on the parked cars outside), yes it serves deep fried twinkes and white trash nachos. There are many conflicting parts of Butter (the bathroom is the worst), but the drinks are the sugar-sweet best ( & best... More

We went there to whet a St. Patrick's Day dry whistle. The girls had wine and beer, I had a good Rye, neat, over-pored. The shelves can be skis, snow boards, skate boards: Idiosyncratic you might say. They say, "We're a redneck bar, we don't dote on formality." I say, a comfy wacky bar with good drinks and an aversion... More

Went to Butterfly to celebrate a birthday. Service was excellent- all staff were friendly, helpful and very welcoming. We ordered from the happy hour menu and ate several small bites, all of which were very good. Favorites were the duck rolls, ahi poke and their salads (seasonal orange and pear salads). Drinks were very good. We finished the meal with... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
