We make a point of eating at Zambra every time we're in Asheville. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is warm and welcoming, and the ambiance is cozy and romantic. Going into Zambra is like entering a wine cellar built into a cave, in...a good way. The lighting is subtle, the colours are warm and inviting. It feels intimate. We were initially disappointed that the menu had changed so much from our previous visit, but we needn't have worried. Everything we tried was delightful. We opted for one large plate and two small: the 8 oz redfish plate, the eggplant dip and the red pepper and walnut dip. It was the perfect amount of food for the two of us. Both dips were accompanied by a generous portion of warm garlic and zataar flatbread. I kept going back and forth between the two plates, deciding with eat bite that THAT one was my favourite. The eggplant was smokey and lemony and the red pepper was crunchy from the walnuts and slightly sweet from pomegranate. Absolutely wonderful! The redfish was perfectly cooked, moist inside with the skin browned and crispy. It was served with lightly cooked grape tomatoes, which burst in my mouth in juicy sweetness, and crispy parsnip strips. Our server, Grace, really made the experience for us. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and fully engaged. She really made us feel that she was happy we were there. I was unfamiliar with the "Old World" white wines on the menu, but I was eager to try something new. Grace asked me about the types of wines I generally prefer and what characteristics make me like, or dislike, a wine. Her recommendation was perfect! We recommend Zambra to all our friends who visit Asheville. I highly recommend it to all of you!More
