...magic. The prix fixe dinner served was beyond excellent. One of our party has a shellfish allergy, and another needed gluten-free. They were both accommodated with no problem. The seven course meal ranged from delicious appetizers through salad, fish, meat...the gamut. Servings are small, but enough to experience the delicate balance of flavor and texture in each serving.

First of all, you should know that L'Espalier is really expensive. A recent evening there with my husband and me ran us $500 including the 8-course tasting menu and cocktails (no wine). However, the place is really really well done--the atmosphere, the service, the drinks, and of course the food. In short, it's worth the splurge. The restaurant used to... More

I’ve been struggling with how to review this dining room. On the one hand, service was close to flawless. Food is good, but not exceptional, given the price tag. I had the 8-course chef’s tasting menu. Nicely done, but not really memorable. Plates are well presented, but tastes are unimaginative. Dining room is also nice, but not ownable. While I... More

Be prepared, Boy Scout: The place is expensive. I know. I've been there about a dozen times, almost always during our Thanksgiving Haj to native earth. I could also say that, while expensive, L'Espalier overdelivers for the price. The venue is sublime; great art, including that on the wine-bottle labels. The service is impeccable; elegant, but with a down-to-earth tinge... More

The menu is complex, poorly explained by a young man who is always anticipating what you don't want and never what you want. Food marginal at best. Service slow. Very slow. Great cheese plate. Seems like its list it's glow. Never again.

A fancy place with two options for set menus which can be paired with a pre selected array of different wines. Sophisticated and ideal for special occasions because is not inexpensive but definitely worth a visit.

Recently went back to L'Espalier after a 2 year hiatus. My first thought when I book a reservation there is "do I really want to spend that kind of money for dinner; is it worth it"? The answer is a big YES! The service is impeccable from the time you walk in until the time you leave. Presentation is creative... More

Extremely good service to complement the very upscale atmosphere. Food was good but definitely on the expensive side. Be prepared to pay through your teeth.

Outstanding food, ambiance, and service. Graciously welcomed even though, due to an incomplete Open Table reservation, we were last minute walk-ins. We were on the way home to Cincinnati after 10 days in France and we had our best meal of the trip here at L'Espalier in Boston.

Staying in Back Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
