Was walking down the street at night and found this family run bakery that never closes. Everything they make is fantastic. Wish every town had a neighborhood bakery like this.

We opted to visit Bova's Bakery instead of a sit down breakfast. We had flavored(chocolate and raspberry) croissants-----fresh out of the oven. We carried them and two cups of coffee down the block and stood and ate them in the freezing cold weather and they were fabulous!!! We didn't even realize it was only 30 degrees when eating such Heavenly... More

The Florentine cookies are a must- the most delicious cookies in Boston. Tiramisu is also a favorite!

More authentic than Mike's or Moderns and NO HUGE LINE!! Cannoli's are scrumptious and the Calzone was excellent. Wide variety of baked goods so lots to pick from. Wait staff is fast and attentive. I will make this my go to place in the North End for lunch and desserts.

So you visit the North End. You want to get the famous Italian pastry it is known for. You make your way to either Mike's or Modern. The lines are an hour long. Don't go there. Go to Bova's!!!!!!! It is a smaller shop with real mature customer service oriented workers (not teens) who are very nice and helpful. Don't... More

The cannoli at Bova's is very sub-par. It has a thick filling that doesn't let any of the ricotta come through, if there's even any in there.

First time but definitely not the last time. The Peanut Butter Bomb is very tasty, little pricey but worth every penny. So many choices and they all look very good, who needs Mike's.

Darling little bakery tucked on the corner of Salem Street. They are open 24/7 and have fabulous cannolis--Peanut Butter, Nutella, Creme Brulee, Chocolate Chip, Vanilla, etc. Minimum $10 to use a credit card. I thought they were as good as Mike's, without such an intimidating line. There is a line in the daytime, but if you come after dinner in... More

It's 2am and you want something sweet. Bova's is your answer. Their stuff isn't very good, it's sweet to the max and hasn't evolved beyond gooey Italian-American 1950's pastry. But at 3am you can get it. For that be grateful.

Staying in North End

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
