When in San Diego, like all major metro areas, food choices are always plentiful. And when you have the insanely overwhelming number of options in the Gaslamp District, choice is not the issue. What it comes down to is quality and service. I like Greek food. Perhaps my top 1-2 in terms of cultural and ethnic dining. I have personally... More

If you love Greek food and want to sample a wide variety of dishes instead of being confined to a single dinner entre, eat an early dinner in the bar area during Happy Hour. The well drinks and house wines are just $6 and the Happy Hour menu is quite extensive. For two an order of the peppery chicken wings,... More

I had dinner here a few night ago with some friends and it was one of the best Greek meals I have ever had as well as one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had anywhere. The food was delicious. We ordered the pita and dip trio, the cheese and olive plate and my favorite, the Spanakopitas. For... More

I can't praise this place enough. My husband and I stumbled on this restaurant and were so pleased we did. From the staff to the owner, everyone makes you feel like you are at family dinner. The food is exceptional and my husband even made his own drink behind the bar. What a fabulous night thank you Mary and Rosalie.

This was the first stop for a return visit to Athens Market, as my last time in San Diego this was a special meal. The service and food were good, and certainly tasty, but it unfortunately wasn't as good as my memory of 3 years ago. I had the Arnie Kapama (lamb shank) both times. While my memory might be... Concierges may be inclined to refer to the popular dineries in the Gaslamp Quarter, but if your culinary desires lean toward the Mediterranean, walk west to F Street and search out the savory delights of Athens Market Taverna. Not at all a market, it's located in the old Senator Building, listed on the Registry of Historic Buildings. What it is,... More

I've been going to Athens Market for more than 30 years, but it had been a couple of years since my last visit. The food is excellent, and Mary, the owner, makes sure all guests are welcomed and taken care of. There were two big parties going on during our visit, and our Open Table reservation wasn't picked up, but... More

We recently had appetizers at Athens Market. The hummus was beyond delicious. The pita bread was perfect. And we had this excellent flaming brandy cheese dish. Rosalie and the other servers were excellent! They were warm, professional and attentive. The menu is a bit pricey, but the food is great. They don't have a children's menu, but our server was... An outstanding meal and fabulous service. We each had a different entrée and were each delighted with our choices. My prawn dish had the most amazing sauce; I wanted to lick my plate! Best molten chocolate cake ever as well.

Waited an hour for entrees whole watching a belly dancer come through the restaurant. Totally stupid. Put your money into service, not entertainment. I will never come back here again.
