We really enjoyed Lavo. The restaurant has a nice, warm feel to it. Energetic vibe. Music is loud but not overbearing as long as you are not looking for a quiet dining experience. The hostesses were very pleasant and our waiter Leo was nice, very...attentive and made some good suggestions. The fried calamari was very good with a marinara that is exactly what you want. Good Caesar salad but a little overdressed. The chicken Parmesan was very good but didn’t come with pasta so I ordered a side of spaghetti with marinara and it was perfect. The ribeye steak was very large, perfectly seasoned and perfectly medium and very tender. Probably as good as any ribeye I’ve had. The side of fries were some of the best I’ve ever had! Seriously. I always use ketchup and no ketchup was necessary! Actually, ketchup would detract from the wonderful flavor of the fries.More
We found a great TravelZoo deal for a prix fix dinner which included a Caesar salad, a giant meatball, salmon, chicken Parmesan abs penne vodka along with a tiramisu and a bottle of wine. It was a very good deal and the food portions were...very big. The meatball and tiramisu were amazing. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. Great for a date night and the service was very friendly. We enjoyed the evening and the meal.More
No reservation but arrived about 5.30pm on a Thursday and were a bit concerned as no one else in the restaurant but having travelled trans Atlantic we were not for moving and what transpired was a wonderful culinary experience and within 30 minutes the restaurant...was heaving which was a testament to how great the food was. Three different pasta dishes were superb as we all shared a taste of each.. highly recommended.. and the gratis focaccio and tomato sauce really hit the spot.. Top NotchMore
Food was decent and the ambience was really nice. The main issue I had with the restaurant was the service. I get that it gets busy on a Friday night, but there is a certain level of service that they need to maintain. 1. Bring...the cutlery before the food. We were left out hanging with our plate cooling down while waiting for forks and knives. 2. Bring the food all at once. It is rude to start eating when others are still waiting for their food. 3. Having to remind the waitress multiple times on little things like a napkin or bringing the bread basket. 4 The attitude of certain waiters was unacceptable. For example bringing 4 desert menus and handing out only one at our table while chatting and being distracted with another group of people sitting at a table near us and giving a ridiculous explanation that he couldn’t give us the menus because our table was too big (i was ver confused). 5 forgetting my desert after bringing everyone else’s and bringing the check when i didn’t get my desert and the table was still finishing their meal. It really feels like the waiters are not being paid enough or they are under qualified for this line of work. Definitely not worth going back.More
We arrived 5 minutes before our booking tine and ended up having to wait nearly 20 minutes for our reserved table… not just us… We were seated in a lovely little booth.. We ordered the speciality meatball starter and arancini - both were excellent but...I wish the server had given us the heads up how big they were though.. we’ve been to so so many good restaurants where they are informative explaining portion sizes.. We had different pasta dish mains which were also very good but we wasted quite a lot as the starters were so big (not that we even finished them) The wine prices are mental!! We ordered the only reasonable priced bottle of red (I use the word reasonable very lightly!! 70 dollars Valpolicella! They naturally didn’t have any left as I’m sure everyone drinking red would order that one. The prices really escalate from there .. we just ordered a glass each as you have to draw a line somewhere. I’m still giving it 4 purely as the food itself is very good.More
Visited based on a personal recommendation and were not disappointed. The ambience is superb, the service attentive and the food was excellent.
The reason we went was because in the city that never sleeps, restaurants now close before midnight, except for this one in this location, near the hotel where we were staying. The music is unbearably loud, to the point that you can't hold a conversation,...the restaurant is classified as a night club, but it doesn't have a dance floor, the night club is next door. Certain tables have tablecloths, and others do not, but they charge the same for all of them, the hostess sat us in the one that did not have one, I felt discriminated against, the young people had tables with tablecloths, we did not. The appetizer, fried misto, was delicious, we didn't complain, but my pasta was miserable, wheezy, reheated, dry and 6 ravioli with something dark green that looked like toasted seaweed. Diners eat there while waiting for the club to open at midnight, it's like being at a gas station where they fill up gas for the next trip, we didn't go anywhere, it was very disappointing. You guess I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.More
Great food and service. Reservation is recommend as the restaurant is mostly crowded most of the time. Not very great on dessert but the main dishes are great.
My friends, family and I have been coming to lava for years. We love the weekend staff and food is always great. We sometimes end up having a few cocktails at the nightclub underneath the restaurant. It’s always a blast! Just make sure you look...great so the doorman won’t ignore you. LolMore
The meatball with ricotta is maybe the most delicious meatball that I have ever tried, considering that I have tired really a lot. Amazing pasta ravioli with goat cheese. We were 8 people, everyone was super satisfied from his dish. The steaks were also delicious....The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly. The place is must visit in NYC. Keep up the good reputation for another century guys!More
Food was delicious and service was very friendly. Had a nice atmosphere with people dressed smartly. Food was very delicious as well. It was a nice experience but not a joke run… maybe a triple?
Delicious… Food was delicious and staff was really friendly. We came in early because we were travelling with kids and Everything went well. We felt confortable after a long day of walking. A bit expensive but we drank good wine and ate quality food.
I ate a Lavo this past Saturday and the food/service was great. I am originally from Boston and there are not any resturants paired with a late night club, so I was looking forward to Lavo. The meatballs and pasta were both amazing. The great...food coupled with the kind staff made it an enjoyable night for my friends and I. After dinner we went to the basement where the club is, which we had a blast at. One thing that especially stood out to me was how professional all of the security was at the club. I have had my fair share of bad interactions with security staff in Boston so it was nice to finally deal with professional/caring security guards. Overall the club was really fun and packed with good looking people. 10/10 would recommend and would go back.More
A lovely environment. Staff were friendly, service was OK. Set meal is good value for money. Wasn’t a big fan of the steak sauce but started and truffle fries were wonderful.
