With great expectations we hiked through the rain to Hofbrau Bierhaus for some authentic German Beer, Food & Music, but were very disappointed. The service and beer were excellent, Huge Pretzel appetizer with spicy and sweet mustard very good, dinner was awful, had to send mine back- Rueben Sandwich tasted like boiled rubber, couldn't bite into it and it was... The best dark beer I ever tasted was at the Hofbrau in Munich, so when I heard that there was a Hofbrau in NYC, I was excited. Unfortunately, the beer here does not taste the same as the beer in Munich. The atmosphere wasn’t bad though, there was a live band, and on the Tuesday that we went, they had... More

We stopped by here for our lunch - while watching a Bundesliga Fussball game (Bayern Muenchen vs. Borussia Dortmund). The Currywurst is one of our favorites - close to Currywurst in Germany. If you follow our food blog - you know by now that we grew up in Germany and eat German food whenever we can find a restaurant that... More

You have to walk up a long steep staircase to get to Bierhaus but it's kind of fun once you are there. It's more sportsbar than anything else, although the stein hoister servers do wear the traditional German outfits like the St. Pauli Girls. Rows of communal tables 'Biergarten' style. Lots of German banners & flags hanging from the ceiling.... More

Nice place to have a beer with friends, however one thing I learned quickly is that the seating is not communal, sections are booked out for groups which can make it difficult to find a seat. The beer was about 8 bucks a piece, quality and freshness isn't up to the same standard as Hofbrau house Munich. Had the dunkel,... More

Great drinks, good food and awesome ambience! Went late afternoon and ordered their 2 ltr. boot glass German beer. I loved the service and the ambience was just great! A cool place to hangout, enjoy the sports on TV along with your friends!

After our first day of pounding the streets of NYC we were starving and looking for somewhere unique to pop into for lunch. After lots of searching we decided to try this place. Hopping up the stairs the bar was larger then expected, and the decor was a mixture between traditional German and a sports bar. It was queit when... More

My wife and I stayed across the street and saw this place hopping every night. We stopped buy to check it out and we were surprised! The place is Ockoberfest every day! A nice bar, Large sized table area and an outside area. A large menu looked awesome, we were there just for beers and ended up getting a Pretzel.... More

With my husband being German, he is drawn to any place called a Bierhaus. While I don't drink beer, he was very pleased with their beer selection and I was very pleased with my pretzel! It is located up a flight of stairs and I am not sure if there is another way in. Bathrooms were clean.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
