We had dinner here the other night and not only did we experience a 45 minute gap between appetizers and our main course (L'Apicio said they lost our ticket in the kitchen), but when the food finally came, the pastas were so salty that two in our party couldn't even finish their plate. Considering what they charge at L'Apicio, I... More

A most pleasant place for a good meal when you are on the lower East side, like after a good movie. The kale salad was superb, octopus fair, gnocchi cacao e pepe excellent as were other pastas eaten by our friends. Service very good and casual and the price was not over the top.

I've been to this restaurant at least 8 times the past year and a half. The service used to be so spot on! The past two times, however is so sub par. Even the music and ambiance has turned from chic to trashy. It's attracting a crowd that most tend to avoid. It's had its day.

This was our 3rd visit in the past year and this restaurant still tops our list in NYC. Service is great, but the food shines. My wife had the Kale Ceasar (very tender kale), the fettuchini Carbonara (that was a little on the salty side for me, and Tiramisu for dessert, excellent as well. I had the star of the... More

Excellent choice for business or personal. Price was right (for NYC) and food was excellent. Service was top notch (they even moved us halfway through our meal to an inside table because it got a little too cool outside.) Grilled octopus was delicious (especially the grains underneath); pasta servings looked small but were actually more than enough and we struggled... More

Great service, delicious food. Baby gem salad is highly recommended. Orecchiette pasta was very good but could've done with a bit more on my plate (2 of us ordered this dish, and comparing our portions with the others at the table, they were not as big) Deserts were excellent. Bring a sweater though as it has high ceilings and the... More

I came here with my girlfriend, sister and brother-in-law on our recent visit to New York. The antipasti and pasta dishes were fantastic and great to share, particularly the gnocchi which was easily the best gnocchi I've ever tasted. The chicken as a main course was definitely big enough for more than one person. The chicken itself was not a... More

It's a great place. Love many of their dishes. It has a very different atmosphere when it's busy vs an off night. Friday/Saturday is great and has a great vibe going on. Food is always good regardless of course.

Went here for dinner and general feeling is that the food was very salty. Pastas dishes are small-orchiaetta and spaghetti. Tuna was good. Salads were unique-romaine with feta and the kala salad. Was there early on Sat nite and can see the place being very loud. Very expensive wine list. I think this restaurant is too expensive for what it... More

I like the look, food and feel of this restaurant. The menu changes often and the entrees are always unique and flavorful. The wine selection is diverse and covers just about any palate. It is a challenge for me not to make a reservation at L'Apicio when in NYC.

L'Apicio is located at 13 E. 1st Street (between Bowery and 2nd Avenue). The Italian-inspired restaurant gets its name from the 18th century Italian cookbook, and brings Executive Chef Gabe Thompson's cravable modern Italian food to the East Village. L'Apicio offers a deep cocktail and wine program created by Beverage Director Joe Campanale, while Executive Pastry Chef Katherine Thompson oversees the pastry program. L'Apicio is open for dinner seven days a week and brunch on the weekends, featuring lounge and bar areas and outdoor seating, in addition to the main and private dining rooms.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
