We chose this place randomly from the street. Had one appetiser and 4 meals, all quite good, but nothing exceptional. Being Europeans and not knowing what taxes or additional costs to expect, we paid what you can see on the bill. We just did not want to make fuss and left, but felt ripped off. Just for interest we made... More

As other tourists I knew that Chinatown's restaurants are cheap and Chinese food there is great. In Hoy Wong you'll find the opposite: high prices and ugly food. Our meal was duck, some noodles and vegetables. It was eatible but nothing special, pretty boring. Duck was tough and full of bones, noodles dish wasn't tasty... I do not recommend this... More

We ordered 4 one plate meals and was recommended "kang Kong" a veg to go with it, The food soon came the rice meals were OKish but the veg turns out to be a dish that was previously ordered by someone else and sitting by the roast ducks in front, cold and overcooked and had no taste. When the bill... More

I've been coming here for the past three years on the recommendation of a local family member who knows Chinatown well. I wasn't disappointed. Fair warning: if you want to eat here, don't expect any ambience. It's a little hole in the wall, as it is a basement storefront on Mott Street. If you do eat here, you won't be... More

I ordered two meals, for me and my wife, $9 each. The bill was for more than $30. The skinny guy with "gorgeous" smile told me that these are taxes. When I tried to explain him that it is impossible he pretended that he doesn't understand English. Additionally, I am pretty sure I didn't get what I ordered and it... More

01-04-2016 In addition to my review below I have filed a complaint with the NYC health department about this place. Yes it really was that bad. Ok we went here for authentic Chinese food and it was just terrible. Everything was coming out of a microwave. It's just sitting there behind the chef out front for all to see. He... More

Don't go for the decor, go for the food! We found the menu to be extensive and authentic and were able to find several dishes for all 4 of our group (one fish lover, one carnivore, one vegetarian and one vegan). Service was prompt and the gentleman was happy to answer all food questions my husband had (....and he had... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
