We stopped in for lunch in between our trip to Frick Museum. It was recommended by docents. It was a quick walk. The sandwiches are delicious. The pastries looked delicious but we did not eat them (on a diet!!) The cafe au lait was perfect. It is very small and we were lucky to get a table.

If you want to feel the French touch in New York, Bel Ami is made for you. As an expat, I was looking for a place to feel like home, and I found it !! The place is "magnifique", decorated with so much taste, it is rare to find such a place like that in Nyc. Concerning coffee, I can... More

A small space on the upper East Side. Very popular with the locals. They make excellent coffee and have a nice assortment of pastries. Limited seating, but worth the visit.

This cafe is quaint and snug. It has great coffee, which I got iced. The smoked salmon sandwich was OK but a bit overpriced.

Amazing cafe. Excellent European style homemade cakes and patisserie. Also salads, baguettes etc. Fantastic coffee and really nice staff. Great find wish it was in London.

I've been coming here for ages, mainly because I walk by it regularly in the neighborhood. A cozy, reliable, convenient, French-style cafe, serving very good coffee, sandwiches and pastries. The food ranges from good to very good, but I agree with another reviewer who remarked on the skimpiness of the meat in the sandwiches. The prices are high and typical... More

With options overflowing, a "good" cup of coffee, may take time to uncover. Let me help hamper the hunt in the upper East Side. Situated near swanky shops and Central Park, French bakery Bel Ami happens to top most in terms of service, coffee-based beverages and slim sandwiches. While I haven't tried the pastries, the 3 for $1.75 cookies are... More

Latte, Cappucino, Cafe Americain all well done, efficiently for a busy cafe. Pastries not inexpensive, but mostly tired, which is strange in a busy venue. Do they age them or ship them in from Paris?

We visited Bel Ami for lunch last week during a visit to NYC. We all had sandwiches, which although pretty tasty, were a bit thin on the filling. The real treat, however, were the macaroons. They have lots of different flavors, which we sampled. They were delicious! Even if you don't want lunch, do stop in here for desert. You... More

Cute little neighborhood gem with sandwiches, soups, salads, pastries and good coffee. Not to be missed for a quick bite or coffee/tea if you're nearby.

Thank Derek F

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
