We went here for cocktails before going to Palma - just across the road. It's a really lovely place. Cosy, friendly staff, proper bartenders. We didn't eat here but the food that we saw coming out looked great.

We stopped by for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. All done well! The place was quite busy (early Sat Nite), but the staff found us seating outside. Pleasant neighborhood. Calamari and beers were well done.

On a 4 day break in NYC and wanted to try some Jazz, so did the research and choose the Cornelia Street Cafe for an evening of Jazz and food. Great choice. The staff were very friendly (even when I thought the beer tasted soapy, well it was American!) the food excellent, but the Jazz oh the Jazz, beautiful, relaxing,... More

Happened to stop in for a beer and found that at 6pm for $ 10, there was entertainment and a free drink in the basement. Wonderful happenstance too. Talked to the wonderful bartender, Helen - who was very friendly and made me feel like I belonged there. I will stop again when in the big apple. Places like this are... More

Dined here with a group of 6 people recently, everyone tried different meals. Food was average at best, but nothing exceptional and you can find much better quality food for a better price in NYC and in that area. My gnocchi was bland and very disappointing.

Very tasty food choices and wine specials, surprise for a small venue. Downstairs after dinner cramped so get there early ask the waiter to get you tickets for the next show you get priority if you eat there, arrive over an hour early for the best seat option. Jazz group was outstanding up close and good acoustics. Would recommend and... More

Good service, great food. Nice tables outside in a quiet off the beaten path street in the Village. Had no trouble getting a table without reservations on a Saturday at 11 AM.

We went here for brunch with our daughter and her husband. As someone else said it's your basic European type cafe in NYC, nothing extraordinary about it. It actually wasn't our first time there since our daughter lives in the Village. Service was good and staff is friendly. I'm sure we would go back again when in the area.

The welcome, ambience, and food were all at the highest level; and the proprietor, and my wife and I discovered a serendipitous connection that kept us chatting a while, though I think we would have been made feel welcome to the same degree even without any connection to Hertfordshire.

This is a delightful little place, full of character, and (apparently) typical of the Greenwich Village scene. My wife and I came here one Sunday evening to catch a cabaret performance in the downstairs performance area, and to have dinner afterwards. As it happens, it was possible to have a full dinner in the cabaret room - so that's what... More

Description
In 1987, on its tenth anniversary, New York City proclaimed Cornelia Street Cafe "A CULINARY AS WELL AS A CULTURAL LANDMARK." Founded by three artists, it provides food for the soul as well as the body. Upstairs there are three dining rooms, a beautiful hundred-year-old oak bar, a sidewalk cafe on one of New York's most picturesque streets, and a wood-burning fireplace for the winter. The cafe has received numerous awards for its food: Time Out's TOP 100 RESTAURANTS; the Village Voice's BEST OF NEW YORK FOOD; and a special award from the Village Arts Society for INSPIRED CUISINE. Most recently it received the Waterford Crystal Award of Distinction for BEST BY-THE-GLASS WINE PROGRAM--there are more than thirty wines available by the glass. Downstairs (honored with Zagat Nightlife's Award of Distinction) there are more than 700 performances a year. RESERVATIONS ARE FOR DINING UPSTAIRS. RESERVATIONS FOR THE DOWNSTAIRS CABARET CANNOT BE MADE ONLINE.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
