During a recent trip to New York City, my wife and I wanted to tour the Neue Gallerie. Due to our schedule, we ended up there over a busy weekend, so we went to the Cafe Sabarsky for breakfast before the museum opened...so happy we did! NOTE: the cafe is located in the museum. While in college so many years... More

I love this place for lunch. The space is a gorgeous wood paneled room, the wurst with potatoes make a tasty simple meal (we had sausage with a smoky curry sauce, and bratwurst with sauerkraut ($20 each). A nice half bottle of off dry riesling ($38), then coffee with apple strudel better than any other (except that piece about 30... More

I had read about this restaurant before my visit and was excited to get a chance to experience it. My order of a beet salad was nothing more than a pile of cut up cooked beets with perhaps 3 soggy leaves of green on the bottom and 2 small squares of goat cheese. Oh well.

Stepping back in time to a Viennese cafe in the Neue gallery. Great desserts, tasty goulash and curry wurst and good salads. The service is good and the ambiance and decor fit with the Klimt Art in the gallery above.

Two of us went to Cafe Sabarsky for Saturday afternoon lunch. This place is spectacular. The ambience in the dining room is very comforting. We were seated in the corner and could look out at 5th Avenue. If you are looking for the ultimate New York pretzel experience than this is a must. The pretzel's are made on sight and... More

Dishes were authentic and very good, Service was excellent and the menu had a good selection. Had the goulash which was very good with the right amount of spices. Desserts were excellent and very much like that served in Europe. Prices are high with $174 for a lunch for three adult.

This is a fairly comfortable restaurant located in the Neue Gallery, and an acceptable place for coffee and dessert -- some of the specialties can be very good as well, but the menu changes often. Luckily, the waitstaff is usually very helpful. We go to this museum a couple of times a year and have tried the cafe four times... More

This restaurant is located within the Neue Gallery which exhibits turn of the 20th century artworks from European masters. The place resembles a traditional European / Austrian coffee - bistroit from the early-mid 20th century. We tried their sausages and weren't that impressed with them although the accompanying pretzel was very good. The best part of the place is their... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
