We were in New York yesterday and ate at HanGawi because I really wanted a unique experience for my family. There were 4 of us total (my husband and our 2 kids ages 16 and 20) 1. Never ever take a small child there. The rice bowl are absolutely on fire hot. I barely skimmed my own bowl by accident... More

This is authentic Korean restaurant with good selection of vegetarian dishes. Even for Manhattan it is not so pricy. Problem is that I'm not vegetarian and I can't really appreciate the vegetarian food but at the same time I have great experience visiting other Korean restaurants in NYC and Korea and I wouldn't say that is the best place.

I met a vegan business associate here for lunch. I'd read about the shoes off thing beforehand so I wore some fancy socks and felt duly proud of myself for thinking of it. It was restaurant week but I decided to go off the fixed price menu. Since I can never get enough Kimchi in my belly, I had flavorful,... More

I came out of Hangawi pleasantly surprised. I appreciate vegetarian dishes, but I'm primarily a carnivore. Hangawi has a mysterious way to satiate a meat-loving consumer in both taste and filling-ness. Though prices are a little on the higher end of the spectrum for this type of cuisine, I'd say it was well worth it. I had the privilege of... More

I was wary about trying this restaurant because it is Korean, having visited Korea and being less than impressed with what we ate. What an eye opener. The service was excellent - the food was absolutely delicious and varied. Beautifully presented dishes too. I have had my mind changed about Korean cuisine - also I'm not vegan, but I would... More

Vegetarians who live in places other than the Big Apple don't have places to indulge like Hangawi which features an amazing array of dishes; hot and cold, spicy and not. It is a very lovely restaurant inside--authentic looking--they make you take your shoes off and sit on cushions on the floor (although your feet do dangle beneath the table). Servers... More

My boyfriend suggested this place with the good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised , very nice seating experience and decor. I recommend the kale/pumkin pancake mix, the mushroom fritters and stuffed portobello mushrooms

We visited this very interesting resaurant, our first night out in NY. You take off your shoes, sit in very low tables, getting prepared for a great experience. It was perfect, well prepared, balanced and tasty. Bit expensive for us, but well deserved. Looking forward to our next visit in NY. Do not forget to drink their tea at the... More

We reserved a table at Hangawi after listening to reviews and we made the right decision. The ambience of the restaurant is excellent and a lot of thought has been put into furnishing the restaurant. When you enter the restaurant you are asked to remove your shoes. These are neatly stacked away by the wait staff once you proceed to... More

Great experience overall! Delicious food, nice warm feet without shoes on the heated floor, very good and spicy ginger tea. We had starters and main course, just too bad I didn't have any space left to try the desserts, next time ! The main course came in a hot bowl & I had to stir in the miso and the... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
