I cannot say enough good things about Barbes. I travel to New York on business extensively and I try to dine at Barbes as often as I can; it is that good. The overall experience is wonderful. While it is always busy, it never feels over crowded. The lights are dim for a comfortable atmosphere. The service is very friendly... More

This place came up on Open Table when searching for a Moroccan restaurant. On a Tuesday at 10:15pm we were the only ones there! The food was good, not mind blowing. Service was on point, just felt slightly uncomfortable eating when we were the only ones there and some staff was just sitting around. Music was chill with influences from... More

Went there for dinner and made a reservation through open table, which did not have accurate reservation times. Person in party pulled the door out to get in and it would not budge...so assuming it was closed. I then tried and pushed in and we were able to enter (fire Hazzard?) We were greeted promptly and our meals were pretty... More

Last week, while in Brooklyn, we decided to do a little shopping at Macy's in Manhattan, which was its normal very crowded condition during the holidays. After elbowing our way out of the store, we decided to have a late lunch at Barbes, which is a fairly short walk from Macy's. We had the restaurant to ourselves. No problems with... More

We stubbled upon this place when we were looking for somewhere for dinner . The service was excellent all the staff were friendly and helpful. We had the hummus and crab cake for start . The crab cake was juicy and packed with flavour . The hummus was smooth , creamy and plenty of it . For main I had... More

Came here for a business lunch - had the lamb tagine with couscous. Very filling! They also gave us warm pita and hummus (so good!). Dishes are around $25ish, definitely a fancier lunch location. It's quiet, and service is great.

We arrived here about 8ish after just walking past looking for somewhere to eat. Menu looked interesting outside so we decided to try it. It's Moroccan/ French. The restaurant was quiet. Not sure why as the food was amazing. Maybe because it's not right in the centre of Times Square. Service was quick and staff very friendly. Would definitely return.... More

My wife an I took a 5-day trip to New York last week. We were looking for a place to eat which was close to our hotel, and Barbes was 4 blocks away. So we strolled up Madison Avenue to 36th Street, where we were greeted warmly by the staff. I ordered a crab cake appetizer (Gateau De Crab Morocain),... More

Went there as a solo, wanting something less than lunch, but more than breakfast as it was slightly before noon -- after a hard workout at my hotel. Got a great small table in the window, perfect for people watching, although foot traffic along 36th on a hot and steamy NY August day was minimal. Ordered the lentil salad and... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
