This restaurant is packed. More people were waiting for a table by the door. The room we were in was a bit tight. I'm amazed that they got the orders right given the chaotic scene. The servers were courteous. Most of us ordered the traditional chicken and waffle. You get to pick white meat or dark meat. The chicken was... More

Pei-Cen, even when we're busy, we know how important great customer service is, so it's great to hear that things went smoothly despite the crowd. We're sorry if there was a bit too much sauce on your chicken and waffles, but we hope things were tasty otherwise, and we'd love to have you back again sometime -- let us know... More

We had a late lunch here last week. We both ordered the ribs and fried chicken combo plate with mac & cheese, collard greens, black-eyed peas, and potato salad. There were all very, very salty! Service was pretty quick and decent. The restaurant looked nice as well with photos of famous guests on the wall.

John, while I'm glad that you enjoyed the service and atmosphere, we apologize if the food was a little salty. Since we cook everything fresh, we're always more than happy to take care of issues like these right away if you let us know about them. We appreciate the review though, and we hope you'll give us another shot at... More

I have wanted to try proper Chicken and Waffles for some time and so glad I chose this place to break my cherry! The fried chicken was the best fried chicken I have ever had. I didn't even realise you could make chicken taste that good. My wife is a veggie and had the veggie platter which is a choice... More

Eliamy, we're so glad you finally got to try chicken and waffles, and we're even happier that they hit the spot. We want to make sure that everyone has something for them, so it's great to hear that the veggie platter was good for your wife. Can't wait to see you again for another helping of chicken and waffles! All... More

Nice lunch not expensive, good service. The liver is definitely worth trying and the Sugar Hill beer is also worth trying.

Michael, we don't see any reason why good food needs to be pricey -- glad you were a fan of your meal. And of course, a beer is always a good choice. Hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Sylvia's More

You really should consider giving this a try, how much more authentic New York can you get.We waited for about ten minutes to be seated (albeit near the noisy kitchen) but the Soul/Motown background sounds soon distracted me. We visited on Saturday afternoon but I'd imagine a reservation for Dinner might be advisable. 'Daily Specials' are great value, although Saturday... More

Very charming place in Harlem. Good coffee and cake(s) - others had lunch, which looked like classic soul food - and delicious.

Our wait felt like forever, but we were a big group so we understood. They were so kind and welcoming. The food was a lot, no one on our table finished theirs so I'd advice you order some to share instead of all individually. It was worth the wait for sure.

Visited on a Friday night at 5:30. Seated immediately, staff was friendly, and the food came out in 5 minutes. The fried chicken was delicious; the ribs were tender with just the right amount of "pull" off the bone; the black eyed peas were perfect; and the mac 'n' cheese brought the whole thing together. Washed it down with a... More

Had heard lots about Sylvia's and it didn't disappoint when we rolled up for a Saturday lunch. Busy, bustling, and with a majority of black patrons but we (who are very much older and white!) were made to feel really welcome and fed like kings. Ribs, fried chicken, black-eyed peas, mac and cheese, collard greens, corn bread, and a Bloody... More
