This beautiful, historic space was charming - with 2 fireplaces to sit by, sip a drink is perfect for a late night drink. We did not have dinner as we went for drinks post Hamilton - and it's the bar that Aaron Burr purchased after moving back to NY. Perfect. The bar staff was great, the piano player talented. The... We made reservations early, but still had to wait 2 and a half hours to be seated. Aside from the wait we loved the restaurant. It was beautifully decorated and we had a very nice table by the windows. Because of the wait the owner comped us a round of drinks and a bottle of wine with dinner, it definitely... More

I wish I could rave about this restaurant. I wish I could tell you to go there for your next special celebration. I can't. I reluctantly say to you: go elsewhere. The venue is a grand old spot - ye olde chandeliers aplenty, tuxedo-ed staff and 2 roaring fires. But that's where the list ends. The waiting staff were somewhere... More

This is not a cheap place to eat, but if you like good food, good wine and a romantic atmosphere this is well worth the dollars. The service was spot on and the food was hot, delicious and very fresh. I recommend the Beef Wellington and it was cooked to perfection. We would love to come back when we are... More

a classic restaurant with elegant interior and a fine dining menu. Lovely atmosphere for Christmas lunch - 4 courses and $230 per head with wine and tip (1 bottle). So expensive but the food is very good and the service is impeccable

I usually dont write reviews but i want to help out the person out there who is planning on spending his hard earned money for a romantic diner. You dont have an a la carte menu and their fixe price menu changed from USD80 to USD150 wihout notice. I dont know if they will come back to USD80 after the... More

Avoid!!! My partner and I visited for Christmas Eve dinner and were extremely disappointed - and that's an understatement. It started out by waiting for 50 minutes for our reserved table (seated just before 9pm for an 8pm rsv), followed by stale bread and an unrefined meal for $150 for a set menu. The waiting staff couldn't care less and... More

Overrated.....prices, ambience and restaurant appearance are of a high standard but disguise overpriced wine and below average service. Our much anticipated visit was a disappointment due to really poor service from our waiter, rushed and service delivered with an "attitude" very expensive wine list and food simply ok. Have eaten in better places in NY and wasn't worth the hype.

As a visitor I was taken here by a local, and it's really somewhere I would never have found on my own. From a very unassuming exterior, it opens into a real surprise. There are burning log fires and dimly lit rooms giving great atmosphere. It was cold cold cold outside but warm and cosy inside. Efficient and friendly staff... More

I love this place but what a real disappointment the food can be. Imagine the most beautiful and romantic spot - discreet setting, fire place, pianist, dark and moody bar, crystal chandeliers and all in all, a wonderful venue BUT why can't they sort out the kitchen. OIBLTIBS is not cheap. Over $700 for 4 with a moderately priced Napa... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
