Took my 21 year old daughter for her birthday. Top notch service. Prompt and unobtrusive. Appetizers of spring rolls, tofu salad and shrimp on sugar cane skewers were very good. Entree: salmon with curry was flavorful and spicy. Desert: layered matcha cake was over the top! Atmosphere of old world east/west blend of tropical and classic NYC. I would definitely... More

Both room and cuisine marked by austere simplicity, but food is excellent and exceptional service. Host is friendly and suggested that we return and try the large upstairs bar. We went for "restaurant week" -- spring rolls with shrimp, branzino and spicy chicken which were all quite good. For white wine we chose the gruner veltliner, and the deserts were... More

Excellent atmosphere and good customer service. My only gripe is that the pho soup, while very flavorful, is skimpy on the pieces of beef.

This is meant to be a Vietnamese restaurant but of late with the acquisition of new owners there has been a big turn over of chefs. The sad part is they have not maintained the cooking they were known for. The food actually taste like Chinese cooking now.

I had been to this restaurant in San Francisco many years ago and I was excited to try it again here in NY. Although the ambiance was lovely, the food seemed tired and uninspired. In fact, I thought it was more like Chinese food for old people. There was no spice to it and the dishes we had were overcooked... More

The interior is stunning and the location prestigious, but the service is slower than molasses - we waited for an hour just for appetizers. Moreover, if it's Vietnamese fare you want, there are so many better, more authentic and less expensive options all over town. It's a shame, because for the prices @ Le Colonial, it simply doesn't live up... More

I love the interior and feel of the place. Vietnamese food in a nice relaxed environment among tropical plants. Not the best Vietnamese food i've ever had but I love the smaller portions and care in displaying it versus being thrown on a plate. The spring rolls are incredible!!

French Indochine cuisine is coming to be very fashionable these days throughout any large global city in the world. Le Colonial has been around for decades now, and still serves pretty good french colonial fare in a really wonderful setting. I have to admit, having been a client for the past 20 years, that quality has not certainly moved upwards,... More

Excellent dinner at this wonderful mid town restaurant. Recommend you arrive early and head to the upstairs bar for cocktails and get a little sense of colonial Asia Food is excellent as we Always put the food choices in the hands of the chef. The spring rolls are wonderful the lettuce wrap dumplings yum. For the mains don't leave without... More

This beautiful restaurant is decorated as a restaurant during the French colonial period in Vietnam. The food is excellent and the waiter was very helpful in our choosing selections. The restaurant offers a fixed price 3 course dinner that is a good deal if you are going to order one of the three entres anyway. The chicken dish is excellent... More

Le Colonial is a truly delightful culinary experience. Like stepping into French Colonial Southeast Asia, this two-story restaurant, designed by Greg Jordan, consists of a main dining room with louvered wall panels, colorful tile floors, and vintage photos of Vietnam. Upstairs is an elegant, but lively, lounge serving a full dinner or just appetizers and cocktails. The lounge serves as an ideal setting for private parties and business dinners. Le Colonial serves an authentic Vietnamese menu with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
