Great German restaurant. Authentic atmosphere and food. Loved the decor, grand pictures of Heidelberg that are worn and aged. Has the long wooden benches but also has other seating options. There was a lovely woman working there who my husband was able to converse in German with and we enjoyed talking with her. Would recommend to anyone who loves German... More

Am not fond of German food but this place made me change my mind. Food was so good we wanted to order delivery the next day.

Very good German food especially the potato pancakes that are fried to a crispy brown and come with apple sauce and sour cream. Especially good on colder evenings and accompanied with one of the many beers . They have a wide selection of sausages and roast meat dishes and my favorites are the pork shank and the schnitzels. Service is... More

Very neighborhood place, nothing fancy, but the food is delicious. The staff was very busy, but attentive, dressed in Bavarian outfits. We shared the potato pancakes, although I could have eaten them all myself, they were so good. Also shared the gurkensalat(creamy cucumbers), good. For dinner we had the rindergulasch( braised beef, Spatzle, red cabbage), Sauerbraten, sausage platter, all delicious.... More

The food, atmosphere, music and even the lederhosen on the waiters is quite authentic German. I had Jaegerschnitzel, spatzle and red cabbage.

Great neighborhood place. They have good German food. The beer selection is a bit disappointing, lacks variety.

Heidelberg is one of the oldest family-run German restaurants in the country and it delivers. I've been several times now and it has always been excellent. Employees are excellent and provide wonderful service. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for stellar German food in New York City.

Schweinshaxe- my favorite German dish. Schweinshaxe, in German cuisine, is a roasted ham hock. The ham hock is the end of the pig's leg, just above the ankle and below the meaty ham portion. It is especially popular in Bavaria as Schweinshaxn or Sauhax. They did a great job! Good service and good food.

I live in the neighborhood of this restaurant and it has been a long time local favorite until recently. Yesterday's meal there was the second disappointing meal there in a row. Yesterday I had my long time favorite Jaeger Schnitzel, the sauce and the Schnitzel were not pleasingly flavorful as in the past. The same can be said of my... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
