Best sloppy seconds I ever had. Really generous pours made the rejection easy to handle! Cool vibe, Russian bar waitress was awesome!

Went there for a few beers to start off the night. Mix of classic and newer rock, good service at the bar and good prices on drinks. Not the place to get some avant-garde cocktail but a great neighborhood bar to pop into for a beer.

I ran across the Cherry Tavern on the 50 greatest dive bars in NYC list online. The thought of a low key bar with reasonably cheap drinks made it one of the places I wanted to visit on this trip to NYC. I went in with low expectations and I left happy. The mood of the place is very 1970's... More

I'm not sure why, but for some reason I found the bar staff rather rude in the Cherry Tavern. The bar itself is in a funky area and it's got a good atmosphere, but the staff really put me off. it wasn't busy, but I waited a good 10 minutes for my drink and when it came I had to... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
