From the moment we walked by we felt at home. We are a family of 5 (2 adults and & 3 children) we loved the bread, food choices, service and live entertainment. We visited during the holidays. The entertainer sang DominicThe Donkey, Jingle Bells...all the classic songs to all the tables. Would be one of the first places we return... More

I gotta say, I could go to many highly rated (and more expensive) Italian restaurants in New York and get a great meal, and I’ve enjoyed a few. But La Mela stands on its own due to its family style selections, fresh and perfectly prepared courses, and affordable prices. Add a couple of stars for the casual Italian ambiance of... More

Food was decent and would have given it three stars. But I was upset when the waiter chased an accordion player away from playing across the street from the restaurant. No wonder Chinatown is closing in on Little Italy. The understanding of what makes a place "great" is lost.

Great service , great food and good prices. We came for lunch and were able to quickly get a table. We had fresh bread, salad and chicken parmigiana. Everything was fresh and tasted good. We were served fast.

Food is delicious. Hadn't been in 4 years since we live in the Midwest. We had the same waiter. It's family style so plenty of food. All the staff is friendly.

We came here based on recommendation from a friend because their food is good. But just walking by here, we would have never stopped as there are much more beautiful places to eat in Little Italy. And there's always some people outside trying to talk you into coming in to their restaurant. The bread is not worth eating here, just... More

Found this after going to a few other places that had multiple hour waits they were able to fit us in as a table of 10. I ordered the egg plant and it was outstanding. Service was great 1 waiter handled our big table.

What I experienced at this place does not even warrant a one star. My husband and I came to Melo's for a quick bite. This was our first time dining there. I had visited other restaurants in Little Italy, but we decided to try something new. We got seated right away by the hostess who was friendly and polite. The... More

Hello Marisol, I am very sorry you had a bad time at my family's restaurant. The only excuse I can make is that it was the busiest time of our year and the staff was a bit frazzled. I am certain racism had nothing to do with it. I would love to meet you and discuss this. Please stop by... More

Poor service. Very very slow. A staff that really doesn't care. Good food but there are other places.

Definitely not the best Italian I've ever had. The pasta was under cooked and house salad dressing was basically just olive oil with no taste. The service was horrible. I asked for a glass of wine that I never received. Had to wait forever for water refills and the check.

Staying in Little Italy

Neighbourhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
