The ambiance of this place is charming and the staff attentive. Expect a nice menu with enough variety to please everyone. The food, however, isn't fabulous. Many meals come with mashed potatoes that are buttered, but otherwise dry and bland. The food isn't served piping hot, something that really bothers me. Their basalmic dressing is good, but the salad is... More

We were a party of three trying the Hourglass for the first time for a pre-theater dinner. The service was fabulous: very friendly and attentive wait staff. Had a nice cosy table on the third floor. Food was very tasty and the price was wonderful, including reasonably priced bottles of wine. We were served quickly when we told them we... More

I'm back in the U.S. about once a year and always make sure to grab a pre-theater dinner at the Hourglass. I remember it early days when I lived in the neighborhood as a young man. The current owners clearly love the place which gives it a palpable warmth. The food never disappoints. I'm never afraid to try something different... More

Very small space, but for 2 it was perfect! Cool atmosphere and history...found this via a google/trip advisor search and so glad we tried it! The salad with goat cheese and cranberries was delicious, also the lobster ravioli--so good! Great for a casual dinner--we had no wait at all on a Saturday night.

Made a reservation for a pre-theater dinner with our family. We arrived on time and we're told that there were no tables but it wild be a few minutes. We waited 15 minutes and were then told that it would be another 30 minutes. While the staff was apologetic we needed to make alternate plans at the last minute to... More

This is a great place for dinner. The restaurant is small but when we made reservations for 14 guests they accommodated us comfortably in one of the upstairs rooms overlooking W 46th street. The food was excellent, nice wine selection and the cost was reasonable. The quality and freshness of ingredients was fantastic. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're... More

Nice little restaurant for casual dinner or pre-theater. You might overlook it among all of the choices on Restaurant Row, but it's worth a visit.

The place was small and crowded. Too many seats and not enough room. The mushroom ravioli and the Bolognase were excellent. The hamburger was overcooked and burnt. The pork sliders were dry with no flavor. My daughters pigs in a blanket came out well after everyone else's meals. I would go at an off hour and you might have better... More

Service was good but food was ok. My husband loved his short ribs. My daughters strip steak was very chewy and the chicken was dry.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
