We found Bills because we were staying across the street. Excellent lunch in an old NY pub with lots of history. Place is busy. Food is top notch! Waitstaff is friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed lunch of freshly baked chicken with roasted potatoes and yummy carrots. Good "home" food on a cold and rainy NY day!

Doesn't look like much from outside, but very attractive/appealing decor inside. Food was very tasty. Service excellent and attentive. Only (minor) complaint - 3 of us got our food first and had to wait too long for one in our party to be served.

Someone tore out a 100 year old bar and built a new bar to look like a 100 year old bar, but it's still a good lunch stop and a good place to have a drink after work.

The downstairs bar had a piano player keeping it lively and fun. The upstairs dining room is elegant and charming. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced for its Manhattan location.

Nice bar with nice food and staff straight across from the Ellysee hotel. Would recommend this place for food, lunch or even just a drink. The bar manager Sharif was very pleasant sadly we never recieved the free round of drinks he offered to us......maybe next time.

Bill's was just across the street from our hotel so after another long day we decided to stay close to home. What a great choice, we were still in our walking about clothes and felt a bit underdressed, the hostess treated us like gold and told us we could wear whatever we wanted. She offered us the bar area or... More

Bill's is an unusual place and definitely worth a visit. This location was a speakeasy during prohibition days and the decor reflects the past. Located in a townhouse with lots of wood and art, it is very different from most other restaurants in the area. We were here for a private event on the third floor. Since the menu selections... Restaurant is located in an old townhouse and has a cosy, old fashioned feel with oil paintings and taxidermy on the walls. We trudged through the snow to get there and were greeted by friendly staff who were able to seat us without a reservation. Our group had oysters and burrata cheese w/ prosciutto to start. Mains were grilled NY... More

Description
Bill's Townhouse is a new restaurant in a familiar space, opened in the Spring of 2016 by a team of folks who were longtime admirers of its inherent charms. Throughout a near-century tenure (and few incarnations), the three-story restaurant at 57 E 54th St has seen its fair share of history & reinvention. There is something special about Bill's that lends itself well to preservation, even in the cutthroat and unpredictable world of New York City dining trends and real estate. It's rare to find a restaurant that feels so comfortable in its own right and place - so written into the lore and landscape of a neighborhood that it seems it has always been at that address. (Or in simpler terms, it's hard to find a place that feels legitimately protected from a future as a Duane Reade or Chipotle.) Today, Bill's Townhouse serves Classic American Cuisine in the heart of Midtown and is kept up and running by a staff who strive to maintain an understated and unobtrusive sense of hospitality and service.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
