The vibe was typical NYC - kind of dark and pretty close - but we really liked the scallops, the pork belly steamed buns, the sausage with rice cake, and the hams. The service was attentive and friendly.

We went pretty late, around 11 pm on a Thursday night- so no line but plenty of time before last call! We tried a couple of the small dishes between two people. The brussel sprouts, fluke, and sweet breads were delicious! Definitely Asian influenced flavors, but new and interesting combinations! Definitely recommend everything we tried.

We got seated immediately at Momofuku Ssam at 2:40. The Fried Brussels Sprouts were really good, but Uchi's in Houston are better. The Pork Buns were really good, but I've had just as good in Houston. We liked the Shredded Pork Shoulder Ssam, but the meat portion was a little small. The Ssam came with 4 lettuce leaves, sliced cucumbers,... More

Came with a friend for dinner on a Monday evening. Waited ~15 minutes for seats at the bar. We had split 3 vegetarian dishes, and I had the pork belly steamed buns to myself. Everything was good, but the standout had to be the summer tomato salad--it's been 5 weeks, and the memory still lingers on my tastebuds.

We came for the steamed buns as they are famous for them, it did not disappoint either they were very tasty, service was a little slow waited for drinks a little too long and it was a little dark in the restaurant maybe that's just the style..

The food is simply amazing. Asian fusion at it's best. A must when visiting NYC. The pork bun dumplings where something to die for.

My wife said we had to try it. She heard people rave about the place. OK, so we went. Doubt if we will ever go again, but then we don't get to NYC that much any more. Food interesting, but tends to be spicy hot without needing to be that way.

A lower east side gem. 13th and 2nd avenue.. It is small and always crowded. We sat at the bar. They also have a back room so tables eventually open up. No reservations for smaller groups. Food was very good - although the very pleasant waitress may have sent us astray. we didn't get the whole porgy which looked delicious... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
