Went with some friends on a Saturday night. Had reservations so we got right in. Was impressed with the overall size and the ease in which we could move around. The menu had quite a bit of variety, but generally seemed to be over priced. I ended up ordering the burger royale. It was good, not great.

This was our 3rd trip to The Smith. It never dissapoints! The jalapeno cheddar grits are my fave, alimg with the spicy tuna appetizer. The short rib was outstanding and our drinks were on point. We had the Manhattan and the Honey Jack. For dessert, you cannot go wrong with the smores, but if they have the apple pie, get... More

Went for brunch. I had the Eggs Benedict Johnny which is with chicken sausage, cornbread and tomato hollandaise. It was very good. The home fries that came with it were excellent - crispy and nicely seasoned. And brunch comes with a drink - mimosa, bellini or whatever. I tried the passion punch which is a mojito with passion fruit. Could... More

I went to the Smith solo for an early lunch. There weren't many people there so I was seated right away. The wait staff were very polite and fun to talk to. I ordered the chicken sandwich which tasted good, but there wasn't a lot of chicken. The chicken in the sandwich couldn't really be tasted because there was a... More

This place is very nice. The service is exceptional. Try the soft pretzels. They're so good and a NY classic.

If you want impeccable service and delicious food for a reasonable value, then go to The Smith. We've eaten breakfast here several times and it is always great. The breakfast choices are unique - not run of the mill. Can't recommend more highly.

In New York City, brunch is everything, and you can't go wrong with The Smith. This place is very trendy and oftentimes crowded, so it's best to make a reservation. All entrees on the brunch menu came with a complimentary juice or cocktail. I had the smoked salmon toast, which was very tasty, but I recommend the avocado toast as... More

unapologetically loud, full of life, brilliant service. On a Friday night it was absolutely jam packed , but the staff kept up with pizzazz . Lots of "on the house" extras and a reasonable wine list - which is unusual as wine is super expensive in NYC

After a hard day at the shops really felt like sitting down to a nice relaxed lunch. My greeting at 'The smith' was a little frosty & a touch arrogant. No matter ..... Waiter appeared some minutes later and by his demeanour was probably close to the end of his shift. (2.45pm) . I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich &... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
