Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As part of a trip to NYC, trying a local specializing in bagels is mandatory. And the Abolute Bagel tradition is proven. Despite being a simple place, as soon as we arrived there was a line of people, but the little wait was worth it....There are several options on the menu and we opted for the bagel with Roast Beef, with cheese and salad. The sandwich was delicious and satisfied our hunger for the whole morning. Anyone who sees the face (entrance of the place) cannot imagine how the content (food) is so good.More

Just wow! We truly loved the bagels here. The green onion cream cheese on everything bagel was devine! So was the smoked salmon & cream cheese one! We had to go back for another one! No places to sit so take out only. One tip,...you kind of have to know what you want. Constant line up and it moves very fast. So you don’t want to hold anyone up! Will return next time I’m in NY!More

This place is well situated if you’re visiting Columbia university nearby. We queued for an hour to get in, the service was quite efficient. The bagels were fine, not quite sure I got the hype ..? But the bread was really good !

5 stars isn’t even 1% of how many stars this place deserves. I’ve tried 100s of bagels stores all over the world and this BY FAR is the best I have ever had. I only wish I lived closer but it’s worth the wait and...trip! FYI…CASH ONLY !!More

We got lucky and ended up here on a morning with no line. Normally there’s a line down the street. They have great cream cheese and lots of spread options, but the bagel itself is just okay. Costs almost double what you’d pay for a...really great bagel another block down the street. They’re popular and their pricing reflects their popularity.More

Shame on you, Sam Thongkrieng, owner of Absolute bagels. Beware of how much change they actually give you back! Nick, the cashier, deceitfully takes larger bills like $20 and only gives you back $1 instead of $11, pocketing the $10 and gaslighting you into thinking...that he only received $10. I had to call the cops and stand my guard for several minutes creating a very large line. Only then, did the manager give me my $10 change. Shady business all around! Never going back.More

Grabbed some bagels at Absolute Bagels while passing through the city. Got lucky with parking and arrived around 11am to a decent line that moved quickly. Got an everything bagel, an ost bagel, a pumpernickel and an egg bagel. Also got 1/4 pound of bacon...cheddar cream cheese & 1/4 pound of garlic chive cream cheese. Pretty decent soft bagels. Let’s see how they hold up tomorrow. The everything and the egg I tried today and they were super soft.More

The best bagels ever! The place is very modest, don’t expect anything even close to wow but the bagels were divine! Different sorts of bagels to choose from, freshly baked on the spot.

Expect long lines, paying cash, and nowhere to sit. This place is very plain but the bagels are fantastic. And their tofu is absolutely the best ever. It is what it is- a small bagel shop with nothing fancy. But we have been coming here...for over 20 years, making an 18 mile drive into Manhattan to get them. A dozen bagels freeze very nicely and taste fresh when popped in the microwave. Delicious!!!More

Sorry, this place didn't live up to the hype AT ALL. I went out of my way to come here and was so excited to have the bagels. I bought 4 flavors so I could try a variety and ended up eating half of each...and throwing the rest out instead of saving for later. there were NO hot bagels, really...? it was still morning and there was a huge line, how can you not have hot bagels? that was a huge disappointment. the bagels were a decent size and decent texture but nothing special. I've had many better bagels in NYC. the person who waited on me was somewhat rude as well. Cash only.More

Any hot out of the oven bagel is good but this was a star. It is a very plain shop, no seating. I see long lines at many bagel shops at peak times, so expect that.

After a long walk in the Central Park in NYC yesterday, my family and I decided to stop by this highly rated bagel shop for lunch. After about 20 minutes waiting in line, it was our turn to order. We found out THEY ONLY ACCEPT...CASH, which we were surprised about. Luckily we had enough cash and paid for it. While waiting to get our food, I watched their shop and facilities such as the refrigerator and the way they handled the food and I became worried about whether they followed proper hygiene and if their facilities were clean and in safe condition. I had ordered a roast beef bagel sandwich and the following day I felt sick as if I had food poisoning. I am not 100% sure whether I got sick from their food but I am highly suspicious. I would definitely not go there again and caution everyone to play it safe ordering food there and have enough cash when you go to this place.More
