We ate at La Unica for dinner. The food was good. I really enjoyed my taco. My son liked his food as well. The service was good. The restaurant is a nice local place with character.
While traveling through town we were looking for a place to eat on a Sunday and this was the #1 rated place so we stopped in. The inside is very small, only about 5 tables with a covered outside area with heaters. The chips and...salsa was definitely homemade and passed the taste-test immediately! We had a group of 8 people and every single person cleaned their plate! For a small restaurant their food came out fast and everything was hot and delicious! If you're in Wilcox and you're looking for an authentic Mexican meal this is your place!More
Cooked-to-order Mexican food was a big step up from what we get in the Northeast. It's a popular place with friendly service and a patio with a couple of heating lamps. The vegetable molcajete was new to me and excellent.
Ordered a torta with fries. They sent an extra entire box of fries in addition to what was packaged worth the torta. But they were all inedible. The albondigas soup was so poorly packaged that the whole thing fell apart. Didn't get to eat any....On the phone, the person asked whether we wanted flour or corn tortillas worth the soup. Instead, he sold us an entire dozen, unheated. My husband didn't realize the problem. The torta was mediocre, on a roll, but not a nice roll.More
Comfortable outdoor seating, a gracious, friendly staff, and good food. Those are the elements of a very good meal at Tortilleria La Unica in Wilcox, AZ. My molcajete was stunning in presentation, with an assortment of shrimp, meat, and chicken adorned by green onions, roasted...jalapeño and other peppers, tomatoes, and additional veggies, all mixed together in a piping hot stone bowl. Less impressive visually was my son’s pollo asado, which came with the usual rice, refried beans, and iceberg lettuce salad. The chicken was a bit dry, so a sauce (other than the house salsa) might have made it more interesting. The only other gotchas preventing the bestowing of a highly-coveted, five-star Cherry Wonderdog rating are that our server didn’t seem to know much, and when she spoke we could barely hear her. More importantly, as much as the Molcajete impressed me in its presentation, the taste quickly became overpowering. I could not finish it and wonder if that large portion was actually designed to be shared between two eaters. If so, I wish the server had made this clear. If not, then something about the dish left a bit to be desired. Not to be forgotten, the complimentary chips and salsa were terrific! We had two bowls of the homemade chunky classic. Muy bueno!More
There were a lot of fly, I think $5.00 is a lot for Ice Tea. The meal was ok but a little expensive.
This little find was showcased during Arizona Restaurant Week. It has been around since 1950. Their menu is extensive and make to order. We Camarones Culichi with salad, salsa and fries. This is a delicious dish featuring shrimp cooked in a problamo cream sauce. We've...enjoyed this dish elsewhere and we're pleasantly surprised to find La Unica's version on par with the best. Drinks were generous. Staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. Prices were reasonable. The only draw back was a few pesky flies wanting us to share our dinner.More
Great local and family restaurant on Haskell in downtown Wilcox! Friendly, fast and delicious! Very authentic flavors on mole, abondigas, and table salsa. Nice treat for coming out of national monument day trip. Clean and comfortable like eating at a family house.
Mexican menu but no spice! Even the guacamole was bland. Free chips and salsa, but no spice in the salsa either.
Excellent and delicious dinner. I had chili relleno and shredded beef taco with rice and beans. Great service and atmosphere.
Great food! Sat outside where the atmosphere was festive. The wait staff was very friendly. I had the carne asada which was excellent. My husband had shrimp in poblano sauce which was to die for!
After hiking all day in Chiricahua National Monument I was so hungry I could eat anything except the food at La Unica. The rice was soggy like it was like it was ladled out of the bottom of a pan cooked 2 days before. The...beans had a bad taste. How do you make bad beans? The chile relleno was only fair, but I could at least eat it. We ate here because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor. I have always had good luck with Trip Advisor reviews before, but these are not to be believed.More
Great patio! Dog friendly for our pup. Great food especially shrimp with poblano sauce. Great service too!
This restaurant really lived up to its excellent rating. The chips and salsa were fantastic - definitely homemade. My son had the chicken fajitas and I had the chicken chimichanga. Both were great, and the portions were very generous. We enjoyed sitting in the heated...patio on a cold evening and tasting a local wine. We would definitely eat here again - maybe tomorrow!More
