Great steak sandwich! They are huge, so if you are not very hungry or not a big eater I suggest you share it! Make sure you have cash as it is a cash only establishment.

I love Philly Steak Sandwich, but never had a real one before, just Quiznos. So getting the real thing was a MUST during my visit to the South Street. There was non stop queue in front of the shop and not knowing what and how to order, I was a bit reluctant. Later at the end of the evening, a... More

l don't enter the Pat's or Geno's fray, because Jim's is the best! You see the pile of steak and onions when you walk in, and instantly your mouth waters!

If you wanna do it like a local, please go there. They took me there with the promise that I m gonna try the best cheesesteak in Philly and it was true. Everything works in massive speed there because it's always packed. These people know what they are doing. Try something classic from the menu at first and then go... More

I loved Jim's . We tried all the famous Cheesesteak stops including pat's and Geno's . We liked all of them , but Jim's was my favorite and the most convenient location. This place was worth the trip.

Awesome atmosphere. As you wait in line, you get to watch the line cook turning a huge stack of raw steak into the wonderful filling that is in the sandwich. Wonderful smells and friendly staff makes this a great place to eat.

Received a recommendation from a friend in Philly. Have a variety of (cheese) steaks and hoagie's at the counter and eat in the large area upstairs. Nothing fancy, with a diner style motif, but good steaks and a selection of bottled drinks. Interesting area and street to wander down when you have some time to explore.

Im from tennessee where they dont understand what a cheesesteak is. I ordered up a mushroom steak to go. It was good but not great, meaning flavorful. Seemed to be lacking salt and seasoning I skipped the Jim's steak with onions and peppers due to the late hour. Maybe that would have been better

One of the 2 places I get cheesesteaks here in my hometown. Excellent cheesesteaks made to order in front of you. Upstairs seating overlooks crowds on South St. Fun people-watching site!

So worth waiting in a line and smelling like onions. Their cheese steaks are meaty perfection. When I was pregnant with my son I use to crave them every day. This place will bless your palate!

Description
THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
