It is authentic German food served family style. The food is plentiful and delicious. The atmosphere and decor make you feel like you're in an actual town in Bavaria. The trains rumbling by only enhance the feeling of having traveled into a different time and culture. Perfect place to take friends, family or out of town guests.

I was not impressed with this place but to be fair I am not a fan of German food. The restaurant is so dark we had to use our cell phones to light up the menu so we could read it and the place is cramped. However, the staff is great. Love their friendliness, attitude and patience.

We went to the restaurant with some friends during the annual "restaurant week" in Fredericksburg. Our party was eight, and the place was fairly full. The waitress, while very nice, was clearly overwhelmed with too many tables. Our food, when it finally came, was cold. The fish special was pathetic and one of our party sent it back for something... My husband and I have been so fortunate to visit this restaurant twice now during restaurant week in Fredericksburg. We each had an amazing three course meal for $30.17. I enjoyed the pork schnitzel with a cheese sauce and he enjoyed the fish. He had a kale and walnut salad and I had a soup with sausage. We both had... More

The food and atmosphere are just like I am back in Germany! The schwein haxen is offered only on Tuesdays, but on this Saturday night it was offered as a special! It was amazing in both presentation and taste! The beers are great and everything else was excellent!

We had tried to go to the Bavarian Chef months ago, but it seems like we are always in Fredericksburg, VA on a Monday and this place is not open on Mondays. On one Thursday we happened by and it was open. What a delight it was too. It was so good in fact we went back on Friday. Thursday... More

Restaurant setting didn't change but the food sure did. 2 of us ordered one salmon and one pork dinner. Salmon was just OK, and the same with the pork but the sides were a disaster. The dumplings were cold, sent back, came back warm but tasteless and gritty, green beans must have been warmed over from days gone by and the... More

Excellent first time visit. The wait staff was very friendly and welcoming. They're uniforms were cute. The restaurant is in the old train station in the historic downtown and has been beautifully converted. The wait staff were very attentive, the menu had an array of choices making the decision difficult. The meal, chicken, stuffing and apple was so beautifully presented... More

They have family style serving where you can pick side dishes to share with the whole table so this makes it a great place to go with your family or friends. I have tasted things that I would normally not try because someone at our table ordered it to share. Service is excellent with the goal of pleasing the diner.... More
