Great cocktails and service from the sommelier, who even gave us a tour of the place. Large open fire was also very welcome. We regretted not staying for food. (As we arrived we were nervous that we weren't dressed smartly enough (trainers, crumpled shirt and no tie) but needn't have worried.)

My wife and I enjoyed lunch as temporary, one day, member of the Hill Club. The ambience is very much that of a colonial gentlemen's club. A huge dining room with an extensive selection of meals (a la carte and set lunch) plus a bewildering choice of wines, spirits and cocktails. Service was attentive and the rice and curry is... More

It was an excellent choice to go to this restaurant. It had a really nostalgic ambiance and it is an inexpensive luxury restaurant.

Having read about the Hill Club in our guidebook we wandered up the house to have a look. I'm so glad we did as it led to an unexpected and memorable evening. A visit to the Hill Club is like stepping back in time - it was founded in 1872 by British coffee planters for 'gentlemen of like-minded disposition'. In... More

Had dinner here. The food is really good especially the beef and the soup. The service is also excellent.

My Dad and I went for lunch! The location is very historical, but woth a visit! We enjoyed our time mainly because of the great hospitality! Our waiter was called Benedice (or something alike)! He showed us around the house and served amazingly well! Ask for him!

Hill Club for some reason seems to think that Sri Lanka is still a colony and one has to behave like a British planter and wear a jacket and tie to dinner. Even if you turn up in jeans and a t-shirt, they will insist you wear a tie and jacket which they will provide. Having said that, the food... More

Its not just a restaurant - in fact if you have to eat here there is a formal dining option - good service but you got to wear a jacket and a tie. The hill club is also a great place to stay. Fairly well maintained.

If anyone were to ask me what is the British Empire, I will point to the Hill Club in the middle of a small Sri Lankan town with the exotic name of Nuwara Eliya, and say, "lo and behold, this, my friend, is the British Empire!" Nowhere in the world, not even the English countryside boast of as many English-influenced... More
