we ate late on a saturday at Baru, at an outside table. Without exception this was one of the nicest wait staffs I have encountered! Food was excellent, we had several dishes. Drinks were also great, including sangria. a highlight of our trip! such a wonderful meal and atmosphere.

Went to have a lite lunch and drinks at this place and was very happy with our choice. The food was incredible! Very sophisticated flavors packed into small bites. We had three tapas plates and each one delivered on freshness, taste, and texture. Theven craft cocktails were excellent but maybe a little small for the price. The interior was cute... More

We ate outside and had the best small plates and spritzers to drink. The food is so different and tasty. This is not just Latin Cuisine, but appeals to the vegetarian as well. We had so much fun the day we went - we stayed for hours.

We absolutely love this place! I have been too many times to mention. They have the best margaritas in New Orleans. Our favorite app is the Guacabella, and second is the fried oysters. If the balcony is open you definitely want to sit there to eat. The location is also great, it's close to shops and many other bars and... More

Went for dinner at Baru and had the Fried Whole Fish. It was fantastic. Although it was fried it was not greasy at all and was paired with the most delicious coconut rice I have ever eaten. I love light white wines and even though the wine list is short they had some wonderful Spanish and Portuguese albarinos and verdejos.... More

First, this is a very small and noisy place. The floor, walls and ceiling are unadorned hard stuff and the noise level is at the edge of my tolerance. Maybe just a noisy night, but, for me, a real problem. The drinks, a Mojito for me and Tequila for the Mrs were very good. The menu is smallish and features... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
