You simply must make a pit stop here when in New Orleans! It's the only rotating bar in the city, and it was a favorite of many famous authors throughout history, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, and Truman Capote. There's a congenial atmosphere. We met the people around us and had great conversations. The drinks are good. Fun for either... More

If you visit NOLA, it is must that you drop by here. They open 11AM and it gets crowded already and sometimes people fall in line to have a seat in that famous carousel bar. Good drinks, excellent service, amazing people. No matter what time of the day, it is will always be fun have a drink at the carousel... More

Located in the Monteleone Hotel, the bar has seats on the "carousel" and tables. The carousel moves slowly, so you hardly know that you are rotating. It takes about 15 minutes to go all the way around.

We stopped by Carousel bar on a cocktail tour and it was packed. We wanted to actually sit at the carousel so returned at open on Monday morning. We were able to sit at the carousel and chat with the bartenders. They were knowledgeable about all drinks and had great recommendations.

Even though they were packs for Mardi Gras their service was quick and our server friendly. I don't know her name but she looks just like Billie Holiday. This is not an inexpensive place but it was worth the stop. We had a group of 10 and we all were happy.

The artwork on the carousel and the paintings on the wall are very cool. The carousel spins slow enough to not cause you to lose your drink (or lunch), but does have a tiny little creaky/jerky movement. Worth popping in just to see it. Peach martini - yummy.

Always packed but sooo pretty and very good music sometimes. It is a tradition (thus the crowd) but one worth visiting. If you stay at the Hotel Monteleone you might get a free cocktail.

Fun concept. Slowing spinning carousel bar. Good drinks. Jazz. Fun scene. Was having a great time till the bartender grabbed the dirty trash can by the top & bottom (yack) with both hands then went back to making drinks WITHOUT washing his Hands!! Yuck! Basic cleanliness please!! The bar smelled a little funky and bad but after seeing this it... More

The carousel bar is an interesting concept but in reality is just a crowded bar at all hours of the day or night. Lots of casually-dressed tourists trying to get a seat making it mostly a feeling of crowded people. I thought it would be a more romantic experience, but it's more of a quick-see-and leave one.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
