Stopped in Halloween night for drinks and had a very nice time. The bartenders made us special drinks that were most enjoyable. Inside the International House Hotel.

My husband and I were guests of International House Boutique Hotel where this bar is housed. We were offered a free drink at Happy Hour on the day we checked into the hotel. Ordinarily we would just ignore the "free drink" offer, but decided after a long day of travel to venture over to the spot before we decided where... More

Definitely unlike any bar I've been to. All of the fresh ingredients are on display and the ambiance of the bar is terrific. The smell of the fresh fruit and herbs is intoxicating. The menu of craft cocktails is unique. If you're into that kind of thing you should definitely check this place out. Friendly bartender who offers up great... More

Fantastic bonus of staying at International House Hotel in NOLA. Cosy but refined setting with a moody atmospheric feel into the evening. Great cocktails with a huge range of bespoke creations developed from flavoured syrups and spirit blends in addition to a varied range of wines, spirits and beers. Special mention to Carmine - the head cocktail creator - he... More

Don't go on a Saturday evening as it's obvious the weekend staff are seriously lacking in customer service -- if you can't make a decent cosmo, you shouldn't be behind the bar ...

What a cool cocktail list! Each sounded better than the last. We stopped in before a dinner reservation nearby, but wish we had more time there! We had such a hard time choosing and asked for some recommendations. Our server asked us to trust him and we are so glad we did! He brought us 2 great drinks!! We had... More

I love the look and feel of this bar and they make some mighty tasty cocktails. However, the four employees working in the bar the night we were there were far more interested in chatting with each other and sharing a drink than in serving the guests. Most guests in the bar waited a terribly long time to be acknowledge... More

I visited many years ago and had fabulous drinks, so was excited to visit again. I had checked the menu and while the drinks ar not cheap, they sounded inventive and well crafted. I dragged my friend past many other options because I was determined to go to Loa. It was late afternoon when we arrived and there was a... More

Thank you for your comments. We do appreciate them. First and foremost, please accept our most sincere apology for our Team not greeting you timely. We do take great pride in our service and our cocktails so your comments are also "disappointing" to us as well. We will of course research this internally and again, offer our most sincere apology... More

This is a voodoo-themed bar with a specialized drink menu featuring many locally-produced ingredients (bitters, etc.). They have a great 3-page beer menu (all bottled) that includes a number of local craft brews. For the Feast of St. Peter they had a specialized menu for that event. The bar is a very nice, intimate space with many nice nooks. The... More

Terrific bar for a hotel - great seating and a world class mixologist! Hip and intimate, we met here each evening before and after dinner.

Description
In the Voodoo faith tradition, "Loa" are divine spirits with roughly a one to one correlation to the pantheon Christian saints. The name suits the bar at International House because in it the city's contemporary spirit is evident. In the flickering glow of candlelight which someone playfully noted "softens not only the features but the defenses". In the opulent mix of texture and pattern selected by designer LM Pagano, the intangible exotic mix of Haitian French- Caribbean ways, with refined European sensibilities and in a sort of Sistine Chapel-esque religiosity found in heavily Catholic New Orleans. It's clear in the devoted patrons too, an effortless blend of visitors coupled with a nightly mix of young artists and entrepreneurs who fuel an impressive creative culture of invention in this long-admired city. Says Walter, "In this setting, the cup is literally replete with "spirits" possessed of the power to sharpen the tongue and dull the sword."

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
