There is no way I can visit New Orleans without going to Commander's Palace, it is just that great. Everything about it is excellent - food, service, and atmosphere. Every item on the menu is the best. Very expensive and worth every dime. Dress nicely to feel comfortable. It is a gorgeous old mansion in the Garden District. If you... More

Commander's Palace deserves its fame. Service is outstanding, food is delicious and the Jazz is great. The cherry on the cake is the incredible atmosphere of the historic building, totally worth it to splurge a bit there!

We go to N.O. every year and always eat at C.P. at least once. This year I went with a group of 8 friends. I reminded them several times that there was a dress code (no jeans, collared shirts, etc). We were early so we went to the bar. Here is where my disappointments occurred. For the first time I... More

We have been to Commanders on numerous occasions. Our last time was in '15. We had nothing short of a super experience there. Our experience the last time was a challenge. I don't think Tory was there. Service and food was a challenge. We did have exceptionally good experiences previously. We hope they get back on track.

Went there on a Sunday and on top of the great food, there was live music. Expensive but something special. Do not try to go without reservation.

Upon entry the staff was very attentive. We were asked to follow a wait staff employee. We were led upstairs to the garden view room. Promptly seated we noticed the fine detail and wonderful view. The garden is lit up at night and is charming. Our waiter and staff arrived promptly and filled our water glasses. The waiter explained the... More

We dined in one of the upstairs dining rooms enjoying the turtle soup and bread pudding soufflé- consider the latter a must-do at this restaurant. The osso buco of lamb was, unfortunately, tough. Service was a little slow.

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
