Wow, I just read some of the most recent reviews about Upperline being a "letdown", and I couldn't disagree more. At least, the experience that my partner and I had was really excellent. We were visiting New Orleans from out of town and were attracted to Upperline from its positive press as well as its nondescript "low key" presence in... More

Prepare yourself to be pampered by the owner and staff and get only the freshest ingredients for the menu each day. If you are a fan of art, you'll wonder why this restaurant is not an art museum because it is known to rival art museums in this artistic city of New Orleans. Our group of four tried fresh yellowfin... More

I’ve heard lots about Upperline as one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. On this, our most recent trip to the Crescent City, we finally had a chance to try Upperline and I’m bummed that I was disappointed. Service was only OK, a bit snobby at times and often unavailable completely. The menu is a bit cumbersome with the... More

My wife and I visit the city 2-3 times per year, and I grew up on the Northshore. Have always had Upperline on my short list of restaurants to go to, that we have not previously visited. Being a "local" we didn't need to indulge in the Taste of New Orleans. As touted, the duck and andouille gumbo is terrific... More

How this restaurant gets #2 in New Orleans is a mystery to me. Good gumbo, everything else just average at best. Total over hype. Not your warm and fuzzy neighborhood dining spot. The staff is as cold as the owner.

It had a very high TA rating and it absolutely lived up to it. The owner was gracious and attentive. The service was impeccable...the waiter almost read our minds as to when we needed another drink and when done with each dish. Food outstanding and great ambiance with all the artwork.

I picked this restaurant after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. The hostess, Joann, was very helpful when I made our reservations. And when we arrived she was a great personality to greet guests and later visited tables to check on everyone. I had the 7 course Taste of New Orleans just so I could have a little taste of local... The setting surrounded by an eclectic collection of art, the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff and the menu all made this one of the most outstanding meal experiences we have had. Our party of 9 ordered most everything on the menu and no one was disappointed. The Duck was outstanding and offered with two sauce options. The Drum fish was... More

Was looking for a restaurant outside of the French Quarter and came to TripAdvisor for a recommendation. And the review for Upperline was spot on! This has to be one of my top 5 restaurants I have visited in the whole world. The location is tucked in the Garden District in a quaint little setting. The decor is understated but... More

I called from the cab, panicked because we were late for our reservation due to overwhelming traffic getting out of the quarter, and was immediately calmed by the voice on the other end, thanking me for the call and telling me to take my time. We arrived and were instantly greeted by the owner, JoAnn, who welcomed us like family... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
