First and foremost...look past the service. The food was delicious. We went for dinner and had a variety of dishes. They were full of flavor and decent portions. They even offered unlimited basmati white rice. As far as the service, we'll it was just ok. Not overly friendly. We had no napkins till halfway during the meal and no silverware... More

Good Indian food option on the Magazine street. The buffet spread was limited but food was good. The space though seemed congested. Made a reservation since it was New year's day.

Terrible food and worse service. The waiter smirked and was impatient when we requested some time to look at the menu. He never bothered to come back after the food was served to see if we needed anything. The papdi Chaat was the worst we have eaten. We asked the waiter before ordering if it was the dahi papdi Chaat... More

When we first got there the host was a little unorganized with seating and take out at the hostess booth but finally pulled it together. From there things got better. We went to Nirvana about 8:00. The place was fairly busy but really picked up all tables full at 9:00. The service was very good and the food was excellent.... More

My husband and I used to live in New York and are used to good indian food. The atmosphere is lovely. The food is excellent if a bit spicy for me but i think that is just me as i am currently pregnant. Very flavorful and large portion sizes. The service was slow with the drinks but we were not... After we placed our order we did not see our waiter until I called him to get our check at the end of the meal. He did not even swing by to offer to refill my water. Service was horrible. Even when we entered it seemed as if they were not very interested in our business. Now on to the... More

This Indian restaurant does not disappoint it's status as 2016's Best of New Orleans Indian Food category. We went during the lunchtime hours and had the buffet, which had a nice sampling of a full menu of foods. The food was delicious and we will certainly be back.

The best Indian restaurant I know of. Good service. It is a little farther down Magazine Street than the majority of the tourist area, so it's quiet and you'll have no problem finding a table.

Description
Established in 1982

Welcome to the Nirvana Indian Cuisine. Please take a few minutes to look around. The paintings and sculptures you are seeing are windows to India's ancient spiritual world. After visiting the curry houses of Europe, especially of London, my late father (Har G. Keswani) was inspired to bring Indian culture and food to New Orleans. Since 1982, the Keswani family has presented the unique cuisine of India to the New Orleans community.

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
