Found this through Trip Advisor, and it is a wonderful French Restaurant tucked away in an uptown neighborhood--not even a sign out front. Fantastic menu, great cocktails and wonderful service. The crab risotto starter was amazing! Dining room was full on a Thursday night and everyone appeared to be NoLa residents--not a tourist spot. People were well dressed and clearly... More

Was introduced to this gem from some local friends who live in the area. Very cool spot, great food, service. Super special place that you would never find on your own.

The first thing to know about Gautreau's is that it is a house on a quiet residential street. Inside is a room full of tables. Our server was very attentive. The menu is New Orleans fare - gumbo, fish, beef. I had a good salad, nothing special. I enjoyed my trout but the vegetable and potato combination was too fussy... More

This is one of my new favorite places. It is definitely a locals place tucked in a neighborhood. Patrick, the owner was delightful, engaging and personable. Our waiter Matt was excellent and very professional. The food was superb, the atmosphere delightful. Overall a wonderful evening. Highly recommend.

I was looking for a unique, out of the norm restaurant with a flair for great food, great wine list, and an atmosphere where you feel like a king. Well I found it and believe me, you really do need a GPS to find it. It's actually located in a small neighborhood and has the look and feel of a... More

Gautreau's is a small neighborhood restaurant on Soniat street a few blocks off St. Charles. Maybe 12 or so tables. Patrick is the maitre'd. This is the only place in America that chicken and mushrooms tastes like it does in Provence. Fish us fresh and local. Steak is terrific. I bet I've been here three dozen times over last few... A modern take on the New Orleans kitchen with innovative and very fresh ingredients that works despite multiple ingredients. Intimate room and lighting. Very professional service. Charming owner/manager happy to assist. Very creative, high value wine list with an outstanding Malbec from Oregon. A definite serious not touristic restaurant.

This is a hidden gem in New Orleans. It doesn't even look like a restaurant when you arrive, it looks like you're arriving to somebody's house and it feels like you're dining in somebody's house. It is a small restaurant, there is no bar, but it is a very quaint and wonderful experience. The food was fantastic and the service... More

Enjoyed a delicious, well-paced meal on a Thursday with another couple, and found the experience enjoyable in most every way. The setting is comfortable, the room small, and the staff very attentive. Our primary server was just a tad odd; at one point she refilled one wine glass, but no others; she kind of trailed off in attentiveness during the... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
