One of the best dining experiences we have ever had! The service from our waiter Elian was excellent and our meals were outstanding! Whole flounder was out of this world, filet of beef melted in our mouth! The bread pudding and crime brûlée were to die for!

We chose the Pelican Club to celebrate our anniversary because they offered crispy flounder, one of our favorites. We could not have been happier with our choice. It was perfectly prepared! Our servers, Marcus and Charles, were particularly attentive adding to the delight of the evening. We will remember this celebration for some time to come and expect to return... More

Up a really nice old street. Not very busy, but not very welcoming either so that's probably why. Just had one beer and moved on.

We celebrated my husband's birthday here over Easter weekend. We had never heard of Pelican Club despite my husband being a New Orleans native. We are so glad we discovered it, the food was fantastic and our waitress was really terrific.

My husband chose to have the 4 course Prix Fixe Menu. He had the Shrimp, Chicken and Adouille Sausage Gumbo, which he said was ok...the Pelican Club Baked Oysters, which were excellent...the Paneed Gulf Fish with Jumbo Lump Crab Meat (the fish that day was Sheepshead), also excellent....and the Bread Pudding, which was good. I chose to have two appetizers...the... More

Stopped in to sample some appetizers. Was considering this location for a celebration. Had gumbo, which was good, and BBQ shrimp, which was not good and there were only 3 shrimp! Was sort of Thai style but didn't make it. The restaurant is also really loud, even in what appeared to be a quiet banquette the sound was bouncing off... More

Very nice older restaurant. Kevin (female) was excellent server. Very attentive but not obtrusive. Lobster was huge and cooked perfectly. Comes butter basted but I also had some clarified butter to dip. Was a nice presentation with shrimp and a scallop included. Potatoes were very good but corn only so-so. Very nice fresh goat cheese salad. They have a prix... More

Myself and my partner had a lovely meal at the pelican club as a recommendation from other tourists we had been speaking to in new orleans so we decided to try it out and we weren't dissapointed. Food was lovely especially the fish. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Well worth a visit

The restaurant is set down a pedestrian only street which is great and central but a calm amongst the bourbon street storm. Lovely food and great service. Extensive wine list and the fish and seafood were great.

This place really had the look. The staff was courteous and prompt. We had the filet mignon. I tasted like beef stew meat. Terrible. I've had select grade or no grade steaks before this and that is what they tasted like. Couldn't eat it. Paid and left. I do not recommend this place at all.

Description
The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
