We enjoy the French Market El Gato very much and we're looking forward to lunch before our meeting but only had an hour. When we sat down, after a 5 minute wait, we noticed there were several tables around us that still had menus, no...More

Saturday 05-13-2017 after attending the matinee of "Finding Neverland", we drove to Harrison Ave to cruise the restaurants scene along this street. We spotted "EL Gato Negro" [I think it means "black jaguar" not black cat] and we chose to dine there. Parking is on...More

This restaurant offers good Mexican food. Fajitas are good. Most dishes are average to above average. Pricing is steep for what you get. Service is good. Ambiance is average.

Tableside quacamole good value. Chips & salsa are good. Husband had tamales that were just okay. I had the eggplant special. It was too much of the same thing & the eggplant wasn't thoroughly cooked, plus it was $25. Definitely a Metairie/lake view crowd with...More

Wife and I decided to eat dinner here and I ordered the eggplant special which was tomato cream sauce with chicken pieces, mushrooms and shrimp topped with a grilled Mexican cheese over a special Mexican variety eggplant. It was outstanding. Wife got the beef Quesada...More

My girlfriend, a New Orleans native, took me here for Sunday lunch. The wait to get a table lasted only 5-10 minutes. They have a very extensive tequila collection, which in retrospect I wish I would have sampled. The guacamole made fresh at tableside was...More

Oh man. If you go for nothing else, go for the chips and tableside made guac. It is simply amazing! The restaurant just recently expanded. It is much larger now with lots of seating and a nice bar area. There is no parking lot. It...More

Beautiful restaurant. Large crowds waiting. Expected so much more from the food. Arrived early on a Friday night. Waited about 20 mins for the worse table in the restaurant, right next to the wait station. Shocked when manager screamed across restaurant at server. Food looked...More

Had a late dinner on a Friday night, and even at 9:00pm the place was packed. A good sign. Had a few cocktails in the newly renovated bar (so I'm told) and we were seated in less time than was originally promised. I had the...More
