I wanted a taste of New Orleans, so I visited Chartres House to get some fried alligator and jambalaya. Both were excellent! I was welcomed by the friendly staff and my server was great. I asked for the jambalaya to be prepared mild on the spicy side, and they were able to do so with ease for me. I would... More

I came here for dinner when attending a business function. The group I was with are mostly from more expensive regions of the country so they did not think the prices were high. I did, but the food was good as was the service. I had the barbecue shrimp and french bread - very good. My companions also liked their... More

You can have your heart's desire in New Orleans cuisine at the Chartres House! The Seafood combo is a great choice for trying out different flavors. And the gumbo is a must have!

My husband and I ate here for dinner. We both had a drink and they were very good. I had the New Orleans sampler and my husband had fried crawfish. Both were delicious! Our server was great....the hostess at the front was not friendly at all... I would highly recommend this place!

Stopped here while touring the French Quarter with a guest (I live in NOLA). The seating process was unorganized and inefficient. Wanted to sit in the courtyard patio but it looked like a dirty construction zone...nothing at all appealing about it...no plants or flowers, just "stuff" scattered all over. So we sat inside, better to watch all the waiting and... More

we had guests in on a french quarter visit and at lunchtime we found ourselves in front of this small cafe. though busy, we found the service to be friendly and attentive. the food was good and typical of the creole cuisine. pricing was fair.

We dropped in for a drink and was very pleasantly surprised with the excellent decor and the charming staff who were very friendly. We sat at the bar and noticed other customers eating and they all looked liked they were enjoying the food. Locals were also drinking here which was reasurring. We would re-visit next time we are in New... More

We were quickly seated upon arrival even though the restaurant was relatively busy. Myself and two girlfriends ordered Crawfish Bread and Fried Alligator for appetizers and both were delicious! I must admit that I’m a tough judge of Lousiana restaurants, because a lot of the food served is food that we prepared at home. And of course, it’s difficult to... More

We visited the Chartres House for The triple sampler with Jambalaya, gumbo and red beans and rice. We arrived around 8:00 PM and when tasting the rice-based dishes (all of them) The rice was mushy and over done. When brought to the attention of the waiter, they offered to provide a replacement dish without any rice. When inquired about simply... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
