I was looking for a quick breakfast while staying at nearby hotel and saw sign for Empire State Deli. The native New Yawker in me thought it was worth a look and was glad to see the owner Paul was legit being from a Queens and Long Island. After some fun banter I got to enjoy a tasty egg, pepper... It'll do in a pinch. The menu isn't very broad, the quality and portions are nothing that make this establishment stick out.

Has great breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Reminded me of my NY roots. Spoke with the owner about the history. Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwiches were delicious.

Very reasonable prices. Decent food. Not what I am used to but still decent. Sometimes they get the order correct and sometimes they just don't listen. I have to make sure to tell the waitress I don't want onions but still get them at times. Not sure if it is the cook or waitress. Clean place, plenty of seating

I got the pulled pork sandwich. Tastes great, but the bread was soggy. I also asked for no onions and pickles, but there were raw onions on the sandwich. Luckily, they were on top, not mixed in the meat. French fries are just ok, frozen fries. Cost was pretty cheap, food is fast, place is clean. It is located in... More

This is a cute deli, with great choices like their amazing meatloaf with mashed potatoes or the penne regate pasta with house marinara sauce. Both of these dishes were excellent with great flavor and wonderful choices of sides. The staff was excellent, calling guests by name and taking time to answer any questions. Serving time was also excellent, with a... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
