It's was our first day on the big island. Lunch with the ocean view was fantastic especially since I could find gluten, dairy and soy free options. I had a wonderful salad with the catch of the day. Prefect. The sand floor and lawn furniture gave it a real Hawaii atmosphere.

The view and atmosphere are incredible. The place is a bit tired but some would call it "charming". I think it needs a little TLC. Still a great place to hangout!

Food was usual pub food- we had nachos as they changed the meat from pork to chicken which was good and they were tasty. The keylime pie was wonderful, but a little OTT with the fake whipped cream. We managed to get a seat between the bar and beach so we could listen to the live music and watch the... More

This place should be on everyone's list to visit while in or near Kona. Wonderful bar scene, good food, and a pleasant staff. Music and Hula at sunset. This open sided bar looks at the setting sun and makes any afternoon special.

We are big fans of Huggos Restaurant and Lava Lava Beach Club on A-Bay. Hit "On the Rocks" for lunch while shopping in Kona. Another fabulous toes in the sand location with ocean front tables with umbrellas for shade. Aewsome Mai Tais and great fish tacos!

We only stopped at Huggo's on the Rocks for a drink and to see the Keiki (children) Hula dancers. One of the traditional hula schools has performances each Monday evening after 6:30 and we were delighted to see not only children performing but some older students as well. Thanks to the concierge at our condo rental for this tip. We... More

Went for breakfast. Service was good. Had to wait 5 minutes for a table in a half empty restaurant though, which seemed weird. Breakfast pizza was fantastic. My son loved all the birds in the open air seating but most adultier adults seemed to feel they were a nuisance. Unbelievable views.

How could you not love sitting with your toes in the sand listening to and overlooking the wonderful ocean vista. The food is good, authentic Hawaiin at reasonable prices and the live entertainment adds the perfect ambiance. "On the Rocks" is a far more comfortable and economical choice than the dated, overpriced "fine dining" Huggos. Our absolute favourite restaurant of... More

I came here twice for drinks. Perfect for a great view, tables on the sand, live music, food snacks, happy hour drinks, and amazing ambiance.

Description
Opened in 1998 in the waterfront location adjacent to Huggo's fine dining restaurant, On the Rocks is a come as you are, kau kau (eat) great food with sand between your toes, kick back and enjoy great island entertainment center of fun on Hawaii Island. "After operating Huggo's restaurant for 18 years, we had the opportunity to purchase the vacant lot right next door and we jumped at it," Eric says. "The concept is what you see today - a casual bar and restaurant set literally on the rocks and sand of Kailua-Bay. Like many locals, we were tired of driving 20 miles or more up the coast to enjoy this sort of relaxed resort ambiance and decided to create just that right here in town."
