The old location (on University Ave. north of 50th) is being redeveloped, so the family has moved Chili's South Indian Restaurant a few blocks south to 4220 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105 (formerly Swagat Palace). The food is still great, and great value. The new room looks very different than the previous, funky, feels-like-India décor. The restaurant looks much... More

It's easy to walk by this place without noticing it - I did the first time. Chili's serves Southern Indian cuisine, with an emphasis on vegetarian dishes. The dosas - my partner had the standard vegetarian dosa, I had the Mysore dosa, which is somewhat spicy - are complemented by a small cup of soup, and go well with the... More

It is in the University District and essentially to provide home meals to students from Asian countries. But we, not students, had lunch and found the Dosa with goat curry just as good as one would get in South India. The place is also very much like a small restaurant in India but it is place to go for authentic... More

The place looked basic and unappealing. There was a weird assortment of pictures taped on the walls. An all-singing, all-dancing Indian movie was playing on the TV. Ignore all of the above. The food was lovely. The sweet lassi was delicious. The samosas were flavorful. The fish mole was great. A kindly couple provided friendly and attentive service Note -... More

There's a long line of small family owned restaurants on the east side of the "Ave." You would walk past Chili's thinking, " another convenience store." But walk in and beyond the "convenience store" you will find a small south Indian restaurant. Very friendly staff. cheap and tasty food. If you are in a hurry then try to get a... More

From the outside, this place doesn't look particularly special, and I never would have tried it if a friend from India hadn't suggested it to me. I was glad that I did - the food here is just wonderful. On a two week trip to Seattle I came here three times. Many of the patrons here are from India, so... More

First off, the place is a little small and not that appealing, so don't think the food wouldn't be good. Just a couple of tables and chairs and 2 people to cook and serve you. Run by a friendly woman. I love the south indian food especially with the vegetables and Dhal , rasam, Pappas..etc. I didn't like the biriyani... More

I just returned from India where I took a cooking class specifically to learn how to make dosa since there didn't seem to be a South Indian restaurant in Seattle. I made my first dosa and it was terrible. Luckily, when I was at the Indian grocery on University Way (the Ave) someone told me about Chili's. I took my... More

This place is a real find. South Indian food is rare enough in the US, but Kerala cuisine is much rarer. I've never had food like what Chili's serves outside Kerala. What I had was great. For me the real test of a South Indian place is a veg. thali -- can they deliver distinct, fresh flavors in each of... More

Most authentic south Indian food. Idlis were better than what we make at home. Great food at a hole-in-the-wall joint.
