Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is sent in caves , so makes for an interesting and cool/pleasant evening. It specializes in the food of the region. Our menus consisted of 4/5 small courses(like starters) which came with oval shaped bread - the idea being that you slit the...bread roll in half and fill it with the different items (e.g. mushroom. pate, pork) so there is a lot of bread. As I was with a group it was an enjoyable evening but not the most inspiring of meals! I was rather fed up with the bread and same format.More

Arriving in Doué-la-fontaine on a wet and rainy Sunday afternoon, the concierge in our hotel recommended this restaurant. The surprise was the restaurant was built into some caves and after a very pleasant set meal had the opportunity to look around the caves. Well worth...getting a meal here if you are near doué-la-fontaine.More

Staying nearby we walked to this restaurant for an evening meal, with a little difficulty we found the way in and walked down the steep slope to the entrance. We were slightly early but were welcomed and invited to investigate part of the cave system....Do not miss this it is very worthwhile. Soon they led us to a table. At the same time they started up the fire in the oven where the staff cook the flatbreads that they serve. The meal was more interesting than good, but all edible and enjoyable. It was based on what was eaten there historically. After the meal we were invited to explore other parts of the cave system. These led to a difficult climb with insufficient light, fortunately we had a small torch. Then while coming down a second set of steps the lights came on. This is an experience; do not miss it if you are near.More

We came here as part of a group and the underground troglodyte setting is certainly stunning. The staff were welcoming and seated us quickly in one of the three or four caves. The food came out quickly and was good, not excellent but not bad....Plenty of wine aided digestion. A place to visit and admire the architecture but the food was a little ordinary.More

Staff were so welcoming and when we explained that we had 2 vegetarians and one who only ate fish in our group they specifically catered for them. It was an experience we will not forget

Les Cathédrales de la Saulaie is actually a "Troglodyte restaurant " Completely underground in a cathederal sized cave carved out hundreds of years ago to use the rock for building. Neither cold nor damp but very comfortable it provides an unusaul setting for lunch with...a great ambience. The food is traditional local fare and just one menu. Stuffed mushrooms (With Flatbreads) , Rillettes and farm salt butter (With Flatbreads),Grillade de Carrier ( belly pork, black pudding and Duck) served with haricots in a great sauce and salad, and you've guessed and Flatbreads, then cheese followed by Choux pastry puffs sttuffed with cream.,coffee included and Red wine in great quantity if you wish. The little flatbreads are a local speciality cooked in a wood oven in the restaurant. They constantly arrive at your table 30 seconds after leaving the oven and are delicious. At 28.00 euros a head all in, including a local aperatif) it is good value and a unique experience Well worth a visit and in the heart of a good wine region so why are you not already on your way!!!More

This was a unique experience. The Trogladyte cave was amazing and where the restaurant is located is like a cathedral. The authentic French food was wonderful. The appear tiff of rose champagne was wonderful. A bit pricey for what it was but certainly a high...light to our trip.More

Like the near zoo, the site takes place in a former quarry. The restaurant rooms are huge with a very high ceiling (that's why they call it a cathedral). The atmosphere is rather wet, but the site really is not ordinary and pretty entertaining. Food...is alright but nothing tremendous. Even if the place is huge, tables are packed in there, which makes it look more like a canteen rather than a proper restaurant...More
