Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Driving from Istanbul to Ankara we stopped by a restaurant called Bolu Hanzade. It had really good reviews on Google and I'm always a sucker for finding out of the way places that serve authentic food. The restaurant was small (about 5-6 tables) and was...filled with locals which is always a good sign. The servers were all dressed in spotless white coats wearing white hijabs. None of them spoke English. The waitress who attended to us was a young lady with a kind face and a wonderful smile, She said something in Turkish and I asked for the menu, She showed me a QR code to sign but the menu was in Turkish as well. So I whipped out my phone and used Google translate to ask her what she would recommend. She responded on her phone with, welcome to our restaurant. I will serve you some of our favorites. She came back 5 minutes later with 2 bowls of soup and a fresh loaf of bread. The first one was a creamy chowder and the second a meat stew with shredded mutton cooked in a savory sauce, both delicious. A few minutes later she came back with 4 dishes, a mushroom rice pilaf, beans cooked in a lightly spiced tomato sauce, stir fried lamb and a mutton curry. All had an earthy quality about then, like fresh home cooked food. More Translate messages followed. How do you like the food? It's excellent. Thanks for the wonderful choices. You're welcome. She asked us if we wanted anything to drink. I typed, water for me and my wife and cokes for the kids. She replied the kids should have the pomegranate juice. I shook my head, knowing how picky my kids are about trying new stuff. , She came back with the water coke and two glassed of pomegranate juice. My treat, her phone said. Then Chef Mustafa joined in and the phone conversation continued. We're Indian but we live in Chicago, America? Yes. One of Chef Mustafa's friends then happened to drop by and he spoke English quite well. He told us how he had known Mustafa since he was a child and how proud he was that he had opened up this restaurant that served traditional Bolu cuisine, As we were nearing the end of our meal, Chef Mustafa stopped by again with his phone. Do you want any dessert. No we' are quite full. No you must have desert, it's on me. It was a kind of kunefe, soaked in honey syrup with a dollop of fresh cream and topped with pistachios and served with hot Turkish tea. Just excellent. The entire meal cost just 650 lira (approx. USD 25). I thanked him for a wonderful meal and for his and his staff's generosity. He brushed me off with a chuckle, holding his hand to his chest. It's one thing to have a delicious meal, but to be served one with so much warmth in a town I was just passing through by individuals I'll never meet again is just incredible and leaves me with the obligation to pass this beautiful gesture on to the next person. So do yourselves a favor and stop by and experience Bolu Hanzade for yourself. And to Chef Mustafa and his staff (especially the kind, beautiful lady who served us) thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This will be the memory of Turkey we will cherish forever.More

Finding Hanzade was the best thing!! Often travelling between Istanbul and Ankara, my husband and I would always stop on motorway service stations for our food breaks. No more! We discovered Hanzade on a two day trip to Bolu and we will never again stop...on at motorway service station. Going to Hanzade will now be a regular thing when we travel to the capital. It takes no more that 10 minutes of your time to do the quick jump off the motorway, park, eat and get back to the motorway. Mustafa Bey has an amazing menu of real, homely, wholesome, tasty food. Soups, stews, rice and bulgur, beans and roasted meats. I cannot resist traditional Turkish kurufasulye pilav - rice and beans - and I have to say, the Hanzade rice and beans are totally delicious. I also recommend the soups which he makes using real meat stock and bones, nothing artificial in this restaurant. I can honestly say there is nothing in the restaurant that is ready made, everything is fresh, soups from homemade stock etc... Price wise you simply cannot go wrong. Why would you ever stop for fast food on the motorway, when a few extra minutes will bring you to this place full of healthy delicious filling food that is very reasonably priced. Mustafa Bey and his team are welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is fairly small and thus feels like you are sitting in your mum's kitchen with friends. Clean, tidy and full, so far each time we go, it is full, but you do not need to wait long for a table. This time, we actually preordered 10 portions of soup (kele paça) to take home to Istanbul because it is that good. And for those of you who do not know, Turkish kelepaca soup is great for joints and joint injuries as it is full of bone broth and collagen. I encourage you to visit when you are travelling on the Motorway, you will not regret it! Afiyet seker olsun! Mustafa Bey, thank you so much - ellerinize sagolik !!!!!More

It is one of the few true restaurants with emphasis to details in every item cooked, more like an artisan showpiece than a restaurant. For those who really appreciate the old school Turkish food prepared by an amazing chef, it is a "must visit".More
