We went last night (Friday) with friends who had recommended it, as we had booked we were shown to the table almost immediately. Nice area by the bar to chill if you wanted a drink before going to the table. The pub is dog friendly which is a plus, we hadn't ours with us but is something we will bear... More

We visited the Trotting Mare for dinner, last time we were here is some years ago and its much smaller now than we recalled. Hosts are very nice and menu is not to large. Prices are good too. Portions sizes are generous. Steak Pie is amazing (pastry excellent) as was the Steak Burger. The rump steak meal was good too... More

Had a lovely meal and can't fault the food. Chips the best I've had in a long time. Great service and friendly staff.

The homemade Pate was superb and very well presented this was followed by a lovely Steak and ale pie - succulent steak packed into a proper pastry case - others in the party had Lasagne, Rump Steak,... Went for Sunday lunch, and although the food was ok & plentiful, we were expecting an olde worldy pub . It isn't !! it is just a small room with a handful of tables. The owners were friendly enough it just unfortunately lacks atmosphere !!

The usual management team were away on holiday on our second visit here. Shaun the chef produced amazing food as we have found three times now. Carol is as nutty as a further cake but a wonderful hostess.

Out for a walk and needing somewhere at 3pm, were able to get a good meal for £6.95. Steak & ale pie in proper pastry not just a puff pastry lid, all tasty. Lack of draught beers a shame but friendly staff so happy with the pub. The address on TripAdvisor is a mess - where does Wakefield come into... More
